We purchased Glede Knowe in April 2015 and had the greatest fun welcoming guests from all over the world for 11 years......BUT, the time has come to retire and would like to say thank you very much to everyone who has stayed with us.

We bought this plant as a bulb from Kew Gardens and we wondered if it would grow in Scotland. It is currently around 1m tall and now has a stunning bright orange flower. We wonder if it is some kind of ornamental ginger plant. I think this amazing summer may have something to do with it 🤣.

Housed in an award-winning building that mirrors the architectural character of Galashiels, the Great Tapestry immortalises Scottish writers (and many others) in 160 hand-stitched panels.

Over 1,000 stitchers from across the nation came together to create the stories on display. And among those celebrated in fabric and thread are some of Scotland’s greatest writers: Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and prolific letter writer, Mary, Queen of Scots.
