After a busy Easter weekend we had a little break away before getting going properly for the 2026 season which starts today.
As we had no guests last night we were able to take advantage of the fantastic weather to climb one of the Loch Lochy Munros (Meall na Teanga). Now we’re back and ready to check in tonight’s guests.
We look forward to welcoming you to stay at Saddl Mountain Hostel this season.

Happy Easter everyone!

We’re experiencing some wintry conditions here in Invergarry rather than spring time. Luckily for the group staying with us this weekend our drying room is firing on all cylinders to get their wet gear dried off and ready to go again.

Am Bathach in Glenshiel is our “go-to” for a quick hike uphill. It’s one of Scotland’s Corbett mountains and it never disappoints with the fantastic views all around. If you’re eager to continue the walk you can combine it with Ciste Dhubh, its higher neighbour to the north.

You can be at the start of the walk in 30 minutes by car from the hostel. If you don’t have a car you can catch the bus towards the Isle of Skye and get off at the Cluanie Inn not far from the start point.

We're celebrating all things Ireland today 🇮🇪 with this photo of the Kilclooney dolmen taken on our holiday to County Donegal back in 2024. This dolmen (or portal tomb) dates from about 3500 BC and is one of the largest in Ireland. It was just us and the very friendly donkeys enjoying this fantastic place. Wishing everyone a very happy St Patrick’s day ☘️.

Happy Burns Night. We’re celebrating the birth of Robert Burns on this day in 1759 with a couple of verses from one of his most famous works, Auld Lang Syne.

“Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot
In the days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet
For the sake of auld lang syne”

The Aurora Borealis show last night was stunning. What a spectacle. A big thank you to our neighbours who told us it was on. We would’ve been so disappointed not to experience this amazing natural wonder.

2025 is almost over. It’s been another busy year for us at Saddle Mountain Hostel and we’ve enjoyed meeting lots of new people as well as welcoming back some familiar faces throughout the season. Thanks to everyone who chose to stay with us this year and for taking the time to write some wonderful reviews. We’ve posted a selection of our favourites from the year. Along with word of mouth recommendations they really do help a small business like ours as well as bring a smile to our faces when we read them.

Season's greetings to you all. Thanks to everyone who stayed with us in 2025 and to our family and friends for your continued support this year. Best wishes from Helen and Greg at Saddle Mountain Hostel.

📷 Our wintry scene was taken back in January on the walk up to Loch Lundie, one of our favourite local spots. We love how the snow has settled on the tree giving it the appearance of white leaves.
