🌉 A82 Friars Bridge, Inverness

A fantastic construction view of Friars Bridge, which carries the A82 around Inverness city centre.

Completed in December 1986, the bridge formed part of Stage 1 of Inverness’s Inner Relief Road. It was designed by Jamieson Mackay & Partners and built by Edmund Nuttall.

This photograph gives a great look at the scale of the engineering involved — and there’s plenty of 1980s Inverness to explore in the background too! 👀

🗣️ Do you remember Friars Bridge being built, or travelling through Inverness before the Inner Relief Road opened? What changed most once the new route was complete?

The floral clock in front of Castle, July 1990. It was part of the town's displays for the "Beautiful Scotland in Bloom" competition. The clock was 4.5 metres in diameter with the mechanism buried beneath. It was surrounded by three heraldic symbols depicting the coats of arms of Inverness's twin towns - Augsburg, La Baule and St.Valéry-en-Caux. Inverness Castle Experience
