For food lovers visiting the Black Isle, here’s a few suggestions to wet your appetite….
Pop into The Crofters or the community Beach Café for a hot drink/home baking or ice cream.
Our local quirky pub and restaurant, The Anderson, has a live traditional music session on every other Sunday from 9pm (dog friendly open Wed – Sun).
Or grab a bag of chips from the Harbour chippy in Avoch and sit on the seafront before returning to Fortrose, catch the bus (no. 26/26A) if you’re too full to walk back along the disused railway line.
The Last Splash coffee house is a staff favourite in Cromarty, by the ferry slipway. If you have worked up an appetite, try lunch at Sutor Creek ( amazing wood fired pizzas and seafood dishes ). The Fishertown Inn also serves excellent meals and is dog friendly.
Pop into the Cromarty Brewery shop on your way back to Fortrose for some organic real ales from a family run micro-brewery.
( recently won 3 awards for the best ales ever 🤣)
For early risers – start the day with a stroll up the grassy path to Fortrose High Street where you will find takeaway coffee, delicious pastries, mouthwatering sourdough and tempting cakes, all hand made at the Bakhoos Bakery (open 8am-3pm Thur – Sun).
For a special meal, just a 10 min walk away, book a table at IV10 Café Bar Deli, in Fortrose (open Thur – Sun 10am – 4pm and closes at 9pm on Fri/Sat).

This is handmade in the village and so called because it leaves an oil on your skin to prevent the chance of midge bites, thus making you a very Happy Camper 😆

Pop into our neighbouring village Rosemarkie Community Market. Lots of local produce and crafts. This Friday morning. Only a 20 min walk from the campsite. The village hall is behind the Spar on the high street.

Here’s. Some popular WALKS ON THE BLACK ISLE that our Here's some popular local walks on the Black Isle that our campers enjoy….

From the campsite – you can easily walk to Chanonry Point during the rising tide to dolphin spot, then carry on the other side of the peninsula to our neighbouring village Rosemarkie, stopping at Crofters or the community Beach Café for a hot drink/home baking or ice cream. Refueled and refreshed, either explore the enchanted woodland and waterfalls in the Fairy Glen or continue along the beach to the caves.

It’s only a 10 min walk into the historic village of Fortrose from our site. Take a walk along the disused railway track to Avoch and admire the gardens and maze of streets in the old fishing village area.

From Cromarty, at the tip of the Black Isle, – walk to the top of the South Sutor hill admiring the views over the Cromarty Firth and the industrial landscape of Nigg while keeping your eyes peeled for Dolphins, seals, gannets and other seabirds. Return to Cromarty via the road, popping in to explore the old pirate’s graveyard, opposite Cromarty House, on the way down the hill. Got more time? Take the small ferry to Nigg to explore the beach and walk up the North Sutor hill.
