Did you know that our famous castle as we know it dates back to the 1830s? It sits right in the heart of Inverness looking over the River Ness and beyond.

The original castle was actually destroyed by the Jacobites under the command of Charles Edward Stewart before the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

It’s been through many a siege and been set ablaze a good few times but over the centuries it’s been reinforced, architecture changed and alternated in size. The addition of our stunning statue of Flora MacDonald ‘gazing down the Glen’ was added in the 1890s.
