Suffolk Freemasons’ Community Fishing Day Brings Smiles to Ferriers Barn Limited 😊
Suffolk Freemasons welcomed members and staff from Ferriers Barn to Hintlesham Fisheries for another fantastic Community Fishing Day, continuing a relationship that has now been running for five years 🎣
The day began early, with the Suffolk Masonic Community Team preparing breakfast for the volunteer casters before the guests from Ferriers Barn arrived ready for a day beside the water ☕️
Ferriers Barn is a day centre supporting people with disabilities, and its members have become familiar faces at the annual fishing event. Over the past five years, friendships have developed between the members, staff and the Suffolk Freemasons who volunteer their time to make the day possible.
Nicola Goodman, Manager of Ferriers Barn, said: “Our members really look forward to the fishing day. It gives them the opportunity to be out in the fresh air, enjoy fishing and spend time with a team they have got to know over the years. It is always a very special day for them.”
Each guest was paired with an experienced volunteer caster, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to enjoy fishing, whether they were experienced anglers or trying it for the first time 🐟
Jon Neill, Provincial Grand Charity Steward for Suffolk Freemasons, said:
“Many of our team have got to know the members of Ferriers Barn over the years, and that makes the day even more special. It is not simply about taking people fishing; it is about friendship, inclusion and giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy a great day in the Suffolk countryside.
“These are exactly the sort of community events we love organising, and seeing everyone enjoying themselves makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
The day was rounded off by Suffolk’s Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Ralph Robertson, who presented everyone who took part with a certificate and medal to remember the occasion.
The Community Fishing Days form part of Suffolk Freemasons’ wider programme of community engagement, bringing Freemasons together with local schools, charities and organisations across the county.
After five years of fishing, friendship and plenty of smiles, the Ferriers Barn Fishing Day has become a firm favourite in the Suffolk Masonic calendar — and everyone is already looking forward to the next one.
