EARLY SWSC WEATHER ADVISORY FOR GALES, POTENTIALLY SEVERE GALES AND HEAVY RAIN

VALID FOR WEDNESDAY 27th SEPTEMBER
(Timing and further information to follow)

Good afternoon,

Today, it's ex tropical storm Nigel and Wednesday. It will be the turn of ex tropical storm, Ophelia, to cause potential widespread disruption.

Wednesdays' timing and exact impact is somewhat uncertain at this time, but, based on the latest weather models, we could see the following:

Gales, even severe gales for a time, along with some really heavy rainfall.

It is all down to the positioning of what will be ex tropical storm, Ophelia, as it moves into the UK.

At present, the main centre of the low pressure system looks likely to be pushing in across central Wales and push east through the Midlands.

If this depression stays on this path, the winds circulating around it could reach gust speeds of 60mph to 80mph with the worst of the winds reserved for the Southwest, along the south coast and into the southeast later.

Accompanying the winds will be some really heavy rain for a time with up to 40mm widely to even 100mm locally and all in a space of just a few hours, so localised flooding is likely.

On top of this will be the storm surve around our coasts, bringing an additional risk of coastal flooding.

We are watching developments very closely indeed with Wednesdays potential storm and will of course bring further updates including timings as soon as we can.

⚠ADVISORY FOR CAMPERS⚠

Good evening.

Please be advised of a Yellow Weather awarning for strong winds and heavy rain of which the
The Met Office has issued, for between Tuesday 15:00 until Wednesday 23:59.

A spell of very strong to gale force winds are expected along with heavy rain, due to an area of low pressure, this will bring the likelihood of coastal areas seeing 50-70+mph, and inland seeing 40-50+mph. We are advising you to double peg and tie down all tents,
put away any camping gear that isn't needed if it's been brought outside, and if possible, park your car as close to your tent as you can.
If in a caravan, put away anything that's outside, ensure any gazebos or awnings are fully tied-down or removed, and
pack away any garden furniture, children's outside toys, or anything unstable.
Most decent tents are able to withstand these wind speeds, but anything higher than 50mph isn't always advised.
We are also expecting torrential downpours, and due to such already saturated ground, it could lead to localised flooding, large areas of standing water, made worse by leaves, and other loose debris blocking drains etc.
Some campsites could be particularly muddy and slippery. It may be wise to plan indoor activities for a couple of days, as conditions will be rough. So please do take extra care and keep an eye on our page for all the latest updates.

Stay safe,
Penny,
KWT.

The weather warning for wind has been upgraded to amber.

All guests should either take down your awnings (this is the safest option), or if leaving them up ensure that storm straps and ground pegs have been checked. As you all know we are exposed to the wind here and so leaving your awnings up is entirely at your risk.

Please also ensure that any loose items are packed away securely and not left around or under your vans. They can become like missiles!

In the event our power goes out, you'll need to ensure you have a torch to hand and I'd suggest you make sure your phones are charged, just in case.

Judging by the Met Offices inability to get these warnings right recently, this could be a damp squib, but let's assume the worst and hope for the best.

To all our guests: The met office have issued an amber warning for extreme heat right through until Thursday.

I'm fairly certain this is a first for Edmore!

Joking aside, please be careful and remember to take water with you even if you're 'just nipping to Bude.'

What changes will there be at Edmore on Monday 19th ?

None

Yes, you've read that right!

We've decided it's safer for our guests to remain restricted to key holders only and to keep the social distancing measures in place in and around the shower block.

What you do while you're not on site is entirely your choice. All we ask is that you respect our choice to keep our measures in place.

We want you to enjoy your stays with us and be as safe as possible while you're here.

Thank you for continuing to help us make the best of a bad situation and fingers crossed for a long hot summer (never going to happen!)

Update: We have decided to keep access restricted and allow our seasonal pitch holders and static caravan owners only during 2021.

We will therefore not be accepting bookings from anyone else.

We know that many of our frequent visitors will be disappointed, but we hope you understand that we need to keep everyone safe and we can only do this by limiting the numbers of people on site.

We're all looking forward to further restrictions being lifted and we have our fingers firmly crossed that everything continues to progress in the right direction. 🤞
