Halfway to Scotland is the brainchild of Madeleine Quine, owner of Lazonby Hall. She realised quite how welcome a comfortable and friendly house is to weary travellers on the high road to or from Scotland. Lazonby Hall and Johnby Hall (family home of Henry and Anna Howard) have teamed up to offer just such a welcome. The houses are located just a few minutes' drive on either side of the M6 near

Penrith on the edge of the Lake District. Northern Cumbria is the ideal stopover on a journey from the South or Midlands of England on the road to the Highlands of Scotland (or vice versa!)

Dogs and children are welcome at both houses by prior arrangement. Both offer meals with locally-sourced food and the welcoming atmosphere of a family home. Whether you are travelling alone, with family, friends or dogs, Lazonby and Johnby Halls will provide the perfect stopover on your journey. Why not stay an extra night or two and visit the Lake District and Eden Valley for a couple of days?
