Christine has been part of Castle Green Hotel since the very beginning in 1997, helping couples plan everything from intimate ceremonies to full wedding celebrations surrounded by the beauty of the Lake District.

One of the things we love most about weddings here is how every season brings something completely different to the grounds. Spring blooms, golden autumn colours, cosy winter celebrations and summer ceremonies out on the lawn or rooftop terrace… every wedding has its own atmosphere and energy. And that's exactly how it should be - your wedding, your way 🫶

Meet Matt, head gardener here at Castle Green. 🪴

Matt has the pleasure (and great responsibility) of looking after the 14 acres of grounds and woodlands at Castle Green.

Over the past two years, Matt and the team have been transforming this area from open lawn into a thriving kitchen garden, complete with a donated greenhouse, strawberries, currants and plenty more growing away behind the scenes.

Matt works closely with our kitchen team to grow as much as possible for use on the menu in The Greenhouse Restaurant, bringing a little bit of the garden straight to your plate. 🙌

There’s a reason we’ve won Kendal in Bloom for 5+ years and a very big part of that reason is our fabulous grounds team!👨‍🌾

Today we wanted to introduce you to Matt, one of our amazing groundsmen here at Castle Green.

Matt has been helping to keep our gardens looking beautiful through every season since joining us in 2019. From the lawns and flowerbeds to the little details guests notice on a wander through the grounds, his care and hard work can be seen right across the site.

And then, of course, there’s the greenhouse.

Matt will be the first to tell you that the greenhouse is his baby - and it plays such an important part in what makes Castle Green feel so special. Alongside the rest of the gardening team, he helps grow fresh herbs, vegetables and produce that make their way from our gardens straight into the kitchen at The Greenhouse Restaurant.

Green by name, green by nature.

So next time you’re visiting us for a stay, Sunday lunch, afternoon tea or dinner in the restaurant, take a moment to enjoy the grounds around you.
There’s a huge amount of graft behind every bloom, every flower bed and every homegrown ingredient on your plate.
