We are very fortunate to have a Canadian canoe at (as well as a little sailing dinghy), it’s a great way of exploring this amazing lake.

Today, Alasdair took Sophie out for an adventure to the ligholme islands along with his drone (although it malfunctioned so didn’t get much footage). Here is a short revealing drone shot from the islands and the view up the lake of Cat Bells and the fells behind.

You can rent a canoe, rowing boat, SUP or even a pedalo from the marina. A fest morning or afternoons adventuring on the lake.

Noodle and stroodle were looking a little straggly so we got our mate Will over to give them a trim. Will likes to go old school with hand sheers, but with smaller number they work very well!

We moved the highland cows back closer to the house. Here’s a little video of us moving them but with raw audio. No AI or Royalty Free music, just us shouting “come on girls” a lot, and the quad bike. Spot the moment they go into the wrong field! 😂

The bluebells are at their peak and this could be the best season we’ve seen yet. You don’t have to go to the insta hot spots, such as Rannerdale. Alasdair went to the caves at loughrigg/rydal for a casual evening dog walk and got these shots.

Did you know there are herds of wild ponies in the Lake District?

Fell ponies were bred to work the mines and fields of Cumbria and the Dales.

Many are owned by farmers and enthusiasts. Some are put out to the fells to live wild, then gathered like sheep.

But there are still some that are fully wild, roaming the Lakeland fells. How wonderful would that be?!

*Big News Alert* 🔔 🚨 ‼️

Eggs are back on sale! Due to Avian flu we had to stop selling eggs (the option we had was either lock the chickens in or stop selling eggs). But the regulations have been lifted so eggs are back on sale at the honesty box at the end of the drive. However, if you’re staying with us we can deliver them to your cottage.

So to celebrate we did a little video of Sophie collecting eggs after school.

Last week (we meant to post this then but busy family life!), Alasdair got a call from a local farmer about a couple (4 actually) sheep stuck on a crag deep in Newlands Valley. After a call out to volunteers at he headed out to the crag.

The sheep had obviously slipped down a bit of rock along a grassy ledge, and just needed encouraging back up. So Alasdair abseiled down and herded them back up the slab.

The Mountain Rescue do 4 or 5 sheep rescues a year and above great training, they’re helping the local farmers at a particularly tough time. These 4 sheep would cost around £250 each to replace, and with them being in lamb it could be over £2,000 loss to farmer.
