The Leathes Head is a magnificent eleven bedroom Edwardian Country House Hotel, situated in the unspoilt Borrowdale Valley. The hotel is set amongst three acres of private grounds and is surrounded by stunning scenery, meandering rivers and some of the most spectacular fells in North West England.

❗Egremont Crab Fair & World Gurning Championship Friday 20 - Saturday 21st September ❗️

Egremont Crab Fair and Sports was established in 1267, which makes it one of the oldest fairs in the world. It combines ancient and traditional events with modern attractions in a unique way, attracting visitors from all over the world. Events start at teatime on Friday with a free concert Dancing In The Street. Main street comes to life again on Saturday morning with the Apple Cart being the spectacle at 12.30pm.

Then follow the crowds up to the Crab Fair Field to check out all the local producers, take a look in the craft marquee, watch the sports, dog shows, equestrian events, ferret shows and much more. The kids will love the kids area with their very own kids arena and lots of fair rides, mobile zoo and other star attractions. If its music you enjoy get up to Crab Fest and dance into the night.

If The World Gurning Championships are more your thing then head to The Market hall at 6pm.

🌲Dodd Wood 🌲

Dodd Wood is a fantastic place to get some stunning views of the northern Lake District. The network of walking trails will take you deep into the woodland and walk to the top of Dodd Summit for views across the fells.

You may also see red squirrels in the wood throughout the year.

Cathedral Cave

Cathedral Quarry is a small network of inter-linked quarries above Little Langdale. The system is best known for its main chamber, which still stands forty feet in height, and is lit by two windows off the main quarry. They are frequently referred to as Cathedral “Cave”.

Buttermere walk, a flat and easy walk around the lake.

The mountains from the lakeshore are steep, dramatic and unbroken slopes. Even without setting foot off the valley floor you feel like you are right at the heart of these giant peaks. They feel remote and you can see all their glorious detail of dashing becks, lonely woodland, hanging corries and towering crags all without leaving the safety of the valley lanes and bridleways.

Since the early days of the first Victorian tourists, the route around Buttermere has established itself as a bit of a classic. On the western shore of Buttermere a bridleway hugs the lakeshore and then makes a steady climb through the tall trees of Burtness Woods.
