An Instinct for Kindness1640An Instinct for Kindness
03/06/2013 - 05/06/2013
In November 2010, Chris Larner accompanied his chronically ill ex-wife to Dignitas in Switzerland. He returned home with an empty wheelchair and a story to tell. This extraordinary solo performance is an urgently relevant piece of theatre on the contentious issue of assisted su***de. Larner’s show is by turns funny and heart-rending as he draws us into the haunting, human story of a woman making the ultimate decision about her own life.

Keswick Street Theatre1477Keswick Street Theatre
04/06/2013
Keswick Street Theatre begins it’s 16th season of bringing the history of Keswick alive on Tuesday 28th May, with performances taking place at 19.30 on Tuesday evenings for the next 7 weeks. Each week the audience will enjoy 10 short scenes of "potted pantomime", depicting snippets of the towns’ history in a unique and humorous style during this walking tour of the town centre. Two new scenes will be included in this year’s season – “The Abraham Brothers”, and “Silent Movie” – both written by Bob Bryden. These new scenes will be performed every week from 4th June onwards. Another change for this season is that the role of Town Crier will be “swapped”, with Graham Simons now taking on responsibility for the role, and Bob Bryden standing in as “reserve” where necessary. All of the Street Theatre scenes are staged by a number of local amateur actors, who bring to life a variety of local characters spanning the past 450 years. Performances will take place every Tuesday until the 9th July. Whilst there is no need to pre-book (tickets are £3.00 per adult, accompanied children free), tickets this year can be purchased in advance from Keswick Tourist Information Centre. All profits from Keswick Street Theatre are donated to charity, and following last year’s collections, cheques will be presented in June to Pets Lifeline, and also the appeal for Keswick BMX Track. For further details, further comment, or pictures, please contact Graham Simons (Keswick Street Theatre Secretary) on 017687 80915, email [email protected]

Willow Sculptures in the Garden, Sheep1182Willow Sculptures in the Garden, Sheep
05/06/2013
Phil Bradley, Cumbria's master willow weaver , has been responsible for creating several life size sheep in a number of secret locations around the north of England and we have finally persuaded him to take a class here. The group size will be smaller, it may be a bit of a longer day - perhaps until 16.30 or 17.00 and the material costs a little higher However, by the afternoon you will have created something quite unique that will without a doubt be a fraction of what Phil charges for the same. Hopefully you will be incredibly proud of this impressive sculpture.

Willow Sculptures, Hares for the Garden1165Willow Sculptures, Hares for the Garden
06/06/2013
Willow Hare Sculptures.... one of a series of popular Willow Animal Sculpture Workshops held this season with Phil Bradley at the Cycle Cafe. . This is a rare opportunity to make your own life size model in willow... with Phil's help you will over the day learn the various weaving, forming and sculpting techniques using willow to create your very own sculpture to be proud of . Many of us are inspired by hares...their alertness and quick movements; great deftness yet powerful as athletes ¦this coupled with their ability to suddenly become totally motionless makes them perfect subjects for willow sculptures once caught they will sit happily in the garden environment looking alarmed, as they do! We love to glimpse them though perhaps sometimes wish we could see them more. A great way to make sure we do. Cumbrian Willow Master Phil Bradley, www.philbradley.co.uk, organic grower and creator of all things willow. Phil is much in demand throughout the north of England and spends a lot of time at the Harlow Carr Horticultural College in Harrogate. Phil's courses are always extremely popular, inspirational and relaxing. Our willow days tend to be very popular for those celebrating a birthday, there is always plenty of time to chat, come with friends and have a lovely day out together, enjoy the treat over lunch. All willow days incur a small extra charge payable directly to Phil for the willow used. This is variable and usually falls between £3 and £7 pppd. All courses take place in our lovely cosy barn, though we all make a beeline for the garden as soon as its warm enough in the spring.

13/06/2013 - 15/06/2013
Giovanni loves Annabella; Annabella loves Giovanni. But there is a problem: they are brother and sister. Their love is both a scandal and a sin. They pursue their forbidden passion, defying society and the Catholic Church, a decision that leads to a web of lies, deception, intrigue and revenge which culminates in inevitable violence and bloodshed. This gripping, swift-moving chamber version of John Ford’s classic – and notorious – tragedy is Theatre by the Lake’s first venture into the dark, sensual world of Jacobean revenge drama: don’t miss it.
