A night or two away here isn’t about packing in activities.

It’s about slowing down a bit — good food, a comfortable room, fresh air and time to switch off.

That’s what we try to offer.

The calm before the dining room gets into in full swing

There’s a point in the day when we're all poised to welcome the day's guests and the dining room really settles into itself.

Every table will be full, the kitchen will be in rhythm and there'll be a steady buzz of conversation.

But this moment before all of that ... It’s one of our favourite parts of the day.

These evenings tend to fill up — a three-course supper, a full dining room, and live music that starts gently and builds as the night goes on.

Live music during dinner from 6:45pm, but your table is yours for the evening!

We’ve tried to keep as much natural character in the building as possible.

Refurbishment work was carried out by local craftspeople from Alford and Aboyne using reclaimed Kildrummy sandstone to preserve the inn’s original façade.

Wood, stone and materials that feel like they belong here rather than being brought in just to look good.

It keeps the inn grounded and connected to the landscape around it.

Some mornings are made for not rushing.

A long lie-in, a proper bath, and nowhere to be until breakfast.

That’s very much how we think a stay here should feel.

Lighting is one of those things you only notice when it’s wrong.

We wanted the rooms to feel soft and restful in the evening, with enough light where you need it and a warmer glow elsewhere.

It makes a surprising difference to how quickly you relax when you walk in.

On the right day, a seat outside with a drink in hand is hard to beat.

Fresh air, a bit of sunshine (when we’re lucky), and views across the countryside that don’t really need improving on.

Simple pleasures.

There’s something about the light in May that makes the bedrooms feel even calmer.

Longer evenings, brighter mornings and that sense you don’t have to rush out of bed quite so quickly.

A small thing, but it makes a difference.

🍸 World Cocktail Day

We’re not a cocktail bar by any means… but we do enjoy making a good one when the moment calls for it.

Something simple, well balanced and made properly, whether it’s a pre-dinner drink or something to finish the evening.

If you’re joining us today, it would be rude not to.

🎻 Foodie Folk – Thursday 28 May

Our next Foodie Folk evening is coming up at the end of the month.

A relaxed three-course supper, good company and live traditional music played right in the dining room ... nothing staged, just a proper evening that tends to take on a life of its own.

If you’ve been before, you’ll know the atmosphere.
If not, it’s a good one to start with.
