It has been a busy few weeks, welcoming guests, meeting Royalty and retaining our 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ grading! A fantastic end to a great month. Grading inspects accomodation, amenities and communication. Always a bit of a stress to get this done but delighted with the result. Maintaining 6 cottages, 10 acres and 3 event spaces takes a fair amount of work so having this accreditation is a great boost to help promote tourism and good customer service in

It's been a big week for us as you know. Now we have another great story to add to the many we have accumulated since starting The Green Holiday Cottages!
The display that we took to showcase what we do reflected Mark's work rebuilding the corn and flax Mills. There was a mini Mourne Wall, King Charles is passionate about sustainabilty and heritage craft, so this was right up his street. He told us about his experience hedgelaying but had never had the opportunity to work with stone.

There is a little postcard of a painting of The Mournes. This is actually painted by King Charles when he was Prince of Wales! I don't know why I had it but he saw it and we had a chat about Binnian!
We took along a picture of one of walks with Kilkeel Nursery School because getting children outside and in nature is something we think is important.
You will see a china cup and saucer given to us by our friend Laura McClelland again symbolic of the importance of hospitality which is core to our business.
We were able to give him boiled cake and Mark's poem. Never in a million years did we think his poem or my boiled cake would end up in the hands of royalty.
Thanks to Jean and Etta for unwittingly taste testing 'the royal boiled cake' at the last cafè.
For anyone running their own business there are many days that are tough so when a day like last Wednesday happens just enjoy it.

It's been an exciting day for us. There will be a few more official photos at some stage but this sums up the time we had with King Charles. We had a great chat as you can see!
