Kingarth Hotel

Kingarth Hotel The only true Country Inn on Bute est. 1786
Open every day from 12 noon til late
Home cooked food everyday

The history of the Kingarth can be traced back hundreds of years. The oldest part of the building was originally a croft, which was extended and first recorded as an Inn in 1786. Over the years the Hotel has been further extended and operated for many years as a Coaching Inn and functioning Smiddy (Blacksmiths)

Having bought the hotel in October 1997, we have concentrated on developing it’s pote

ntial to benefit both local and tourist guests. The Smiddy Bar was opened on 28th July 2001 following an extensive building project to convert the old blacksmiths barn.

That’s a wrap! On Sunday, the time has come for us to pass Kingarth on to new guardians once again.
We want to thank each-and-every one of the people who have supported us over the last almost 29 years. The local farming community who never fail to choose Kingarth; the wider Bute community who have been prepared to drive out in all weathers and at all times of the year; the locals in Kingarth and Kilchattan Bay who always make the effort to walk up to Kingarth; all these people and the streams of tourist visitors who return time after time - YOU have made this little country pub what it is today, and we know you will continue to support it with Abi Brooks and Ryan Aitken at the helm.
I have often said over these past years that Kingarth is one of those places that you can never truly "own". You can only strive to look after it for a while, and hope that your efforts leave it in a better place than you found it. I believe we have achieved this. Twice!
So, having built ourselves a fantastic little local, we look forward to joining you on the other side of the bar !
With love, Simon, Maria and Oliver Tettmar
