So that's a wrap ! South Devon Camping is now officially closed for 2026 and that completes 78 years of camping at the farm!

It has obviously been the best summer for camping with unlimited sunshine on tap and no rain until typically August Bank Holiday! Although we desperately needed the rain, we definitely didn't manifest the wind!

We've had a super bunch of campers in again this year. It's lovely to see so many returns, some of which have been coming since the 70's and 80's, and others who found us in Covid. Many remark on the lovely energy our site emits which draws people back year on year.

The vending machine Veg Shed has been a huge success this year. Campers are loving grabbing our farm reared BBQ meat or bacon, a punnet of Terawhiti strawberries for breakfast or a locally made home-bake with a cup of freshly ground beans from our coffee machine. Thank you team Terawhiti (aka the Fam) for constantly restocking the shed and sorting out the inevitable teething problems which come with a new venture.

I'd also like to thank Martin, my hubby, for also being on call 24/7 to deal with unplanned maintenance, vehicle jumpstarts and the unenviable task of emptying the bins. He's the unsung hero who keeps the site running smoothly on a practical level.

We've had so much appreciation from everyone this year and many positive comments, it's very much appreciated. It is nice to know that the cleaning of 1,200 loos, 2,280 sinks and 360 showers across the season doesn't go unnoticed 🙏 thank you'all.

The booking system for 2027 will open again in January for any early birds with a pitch preference, or just drop me a message or email at any time and I will pencil you in 👍

So it's now time for me to sign off, hang up the marigolds and revert to the day job. Thank you all for spreading the word (though I know many of you like to keep us a secret!), for coming back and being so lovely. Hugs to you all 🤗

When you stay at South Devon Camping, you get to meet our smaller pet farm animals. The furries and woolies all have names, but not the featheries because there's just too many ! But here's two of our Pygmy goats, Norah and Nancy.

Norah's having a lovely long snooze .... standing up 🤷‍♀️

Taken this afternoon, the sea looks beautiful shimmering away with the £250m yacht just about visible on the right. With only ten days to go, we'll soon be ticking off another season which marks at least 78 years of camping passed down through the generations here on the farm 👍

Just to answer some of the questions we have received since the Government alert yesterday:

(1) Yes, you are able to still eat without a BBQ.

You can use a gas stove as long as it is elevated above the ground, preferably on a table.

There are also eateries on the beach and several pubs nearby. You can also get a takeaway delivered to your pitch.

(2) Yes, you can still toast marshmallows but you will need to use the gas stove.

(3) No, we aren't issuing refunds if you decide to cancel because of the Government guidelines brought in yesterday. Our cancellation policy as per our terms and conditions still stands.

(4) No, we don't know how long the ban on fires and BBQ's will last.

(5) No, we don't know if its going to rain next week.

If your only problem today is how to cope camping this summer without a BBQ, count your blessings and spare a thought for those poor people who have lost their homes through wildfires, and businesses and farmers who are really struggling right now through the lack of rain.

Thank you for cooperating with the Government guidelines and for keeping us all safe. And thank you to everyone who does 'get it' 🙏
