Worth getting up early for…

There’s something rather special about watching the day begin on the South Devon coast.

Set your alarm, grab a coffee, and head out early to see the sunrise over Start Point Lighthouse. As the first light spills across the sea and the lighthouse stands proudly against the morning sky, it’s a peaceful reminder of just how beautiful our little corner of Devon is.

The perfect way to start a day at Thurlestone Hotel — fresh sea air, spectacular views and nowhere you need to be quite yet.

There is no better way to discover the beauty of South Devon than on foot along the South West Coast Path.

With the path right on our doorstep at Thurlestone Hotel, you can step outside and enjoy spectacular coastal views, sandy beaches, hidden coves and some of the most beautiful countryside in the South Hams.

Follow the coast towards Hope Cove for a picturesque walk with plenty of places to stop and admire the view, or head towards Bantham and take in the stunning scenery across Bigbury Bay and Burgh Island.

After a day exploring, return to Thurlestone Hotel to relax, perhaps with a drink on the terrace, a delicious dinner in the Trevilder Restaurant or some well deserved time in the Voyage Spa.

Where is your favourite stretch of the South West Coast Path?

September by the sea

There’s something rather special about Thurlestone in September. The summer crowds begin to fade, the South Devon coastline feels wonderfully peaceful, and there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy those golden days by the sea.

Spend your mornings walking the South West Coast Path, take a stroll down to the beach, enjoy a round of golf with spectacular coastal views, or simply settle in and make the most of a slower pace.

Back at Thurlestone Hotel, you can unwind with a relaxing spa treatment, enjoy seasonal dishes made with the best local produce, and finish the day with a drink as the sun sets over the coast.

If you’ve been thinking about a late-summer escape, September might just be the perfect time to visit.

We can’t quite believe we’re saying it, but it’s actually rather nice to see a little rain here at Thurlestone!

After so many beautiful summer days, there’s something wonderfully cosy about a rainy day by the coast, and it’s the perfect excuse to slow down, switch off and indulge in a little well deserved relaxation.

Head to the Voyage Spa, sink into the warmth and let the sound of the rain outside do the rest.

Why not make a day of it and treat yourself to one of our luxurious spa treatments? From soothing massages to restorative facials, it’s the perfect way to relax, restore and recharge.

Rainy days at Thurlestone never looked so inviting.

Explore Kingsbridge this summer

Just a 15 minute drive from Thurlestone Hotel, the bustling market town of Kingsbridge is well worth a visit during your stay.

Wander along the quay, browse the town’s lovely independent shops, stop for a coffee or a bite to eat and enjoy the relaxed South Devon atmosphere.

Travelling with little ones? When the tide is high, Kingsbridge Quay is also a great spot for crabbing, a classic holiday activity.

There’s another reason to visit this August. Parking at Quay Car Park is free from 2pm until 31st August, making an afternoon trip even easier.

With independent shops to discover, plenty of places to eat and drink and crabbing at the quay when the tide is high, Kingsbridge makes a lovely afternoon out and is only around 15 minutes from Thurlestone.

What makes Thurlestone Hotel so special?

For over 130 years, Thurlestone Hotel has been owned and managed by the Grose family, with generations sharing the same passion for warm, genuine hospitality and making every guest feel at home from the moment they arrive.

But Thurlestone is about much more than the hotel itself. It is about the people who bring it to life.

Our wonderful team is at the heart of everything we do. From a friendly welcome at reception to familiar faces around the hotel, it is their care, dedication and attention to detail that help make every stay memorable.

And, of course, our guests are a huge part of the Thurlestone story. We are incredibly fortunate to welcome so many guests who return to us time and time again. For some, a stay at Thurlestone has become a much loved tradition, shared with children, grandchildren, family and friends over the years.

It is this wonderful combination of family ownership, a dedicated team, generations of loyal guests and a genuine love of hospitality that gives Thurlestone Hotel its unique character.

More than 130 years on, we are proud to continue welcoming guests through our doors and creating memories on the beautiful South Devon coast.

There is something special about South Devon in September and October. The pace begins to slow, the beaches become quieter and the coast takes on a wonderfully peaceful feel.

Our self catering apartments at Thurlestone Hotel are the perfect place to enjoy an autumn escape, giving you the freedom and extra space of your own home from home while still enjoying everything the hotel has to offer.

Settle into your own separate space, enjoy relaxed mornings at your own pace and make yourself at home throughout your stay. When you feel like venturing out, the South Devon coast is on your doorstep, with beautiful beaches, coastal walks and nearby villages waiting to be explored.

As a guest in our self catering apartments, you also have full use of the hotel’s leisure facilities, so you can enjoy a swim, unwind in the spa and make the most of everything Thurlestone Hotel has to offer.

It is the best of both worlds. Your own space and independence, with all the benefits of a stay at Thurlestone Hotel.

Make September or October the month for your South Devon escape.
