Great to see work underway at Beesands to strengthen the coastal defences after the damage caused by the storms earlier this year. 💪

There are some seriously huge boulders to move into place!! 🏗️🪨🚜

1,300 tonnes of rock armour are being installed at Beesands to help protect the village green and surrounding area from coastal erosion.

Fingers crossed 🤞 this work will help protect Beesands against the waves this winter. 🙏

The Autumn equinox might have passed this week but it’s still glorious in South Devon we’re loving the warm September days and the quiet beaches. 🤫

As much as we love the busy summer season there’s nothing quite like the quieter off shoulder weeks that you get at this time of year.

That pretty much sums up what we want people to feel about camping at Sugar Park. 😍

It’s back to basics in the best possible way.

Waking up to the view across Start Bay, having space around you, spending more time outside and not feeling like you need to rush anywhere.

Isn’t that one of the reasons we all love camping? 🏕️☺️

That sense of freedom and simplicity to the day. A walk to the beach, a wander along the coast path, something good to eat and then back to your pitch to watch the light change over the bay.

Sometimes real luxury is just having a bit more time, a bit more space and fewer distractions.

Why we love September at Sugar Park 👇

The evenings still have daylight, the days are often a little cooler and the nights can be much more comfortable for sleeping under canvas. ⛺️

The beaches are quieter, it’s easy to get a table to eat at the pub, the coastal path feels quieter and there’s more space to enjoy the views across Start Bay.

Yes, you might need an extra layer in the evening and a waterproof in the bag, but September has a completely different feel down here. ☺️

You can still make a full day of it, walk down to Beesands, head out along the coast path to Mattiscombe and come back to Sugar Park and enjoy the stars ✨ in the evening without it being too chilly.

People often ask us where the name Sugar Park comes from.

The answer is quite simple.

Long before it became a campsite, this field was known locally as Sugar Park, and the name has stayed with it ever since.🗺️

The land has been part of Cath’s family, the Rogers family, for around 50 years, spanning at least three generations of farming life here in the South Hams.

Today, people come here to camp, walk the coastal path, star gaze, switch off enjoy the beaches and take in the views across Start Bay.

But at its heart, Sugar Park remains a back-to-basics family-owned campsite with deep roots in this special corner of Devon.

Set within the South Hams National Landscape (formerly known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), we love sharing it with visitors and giving people the chance to enjoy this special part of the South Hams for themselves.

Where are you watching tonight’s solar eclipse from? 🌞🌑

South Devon is one of the best places in the UK to see it, with around 95% of the Sun expected to be covered at its peak.

📍 We’re wondering if Prawle Point, the most southerly point in Devon, might be a rather good place to view it! 👀

It’s the closest we’ll get to a total solar eclipse here for a very long time, with the next one not this close not until 2081. 😲

We’ve noticed it’s a little quieter than normal at the moment at the campsite and we’re curious to know why. 🤔

Has it been too hot to camp? Are you waiting for cooler nights, making the most of days out closer to home while the weather is warm, or have you assumed everywhere will already be fully booked?
