Unforgettable Fishing at Wilton Farm, South Devon.

Nestled in the rolling hills of South Devon, Wilton Farm allows access to a variety of fishing.

Perfectly situated with direct access to the Salcombe Estuary, our serene retreat offers access to some of the UK’s richest saltwater fishing, teeming with diverse species like mullet, bass, po***ck, Rays, conger and more.

Whether you’re a seasoned fly angler or a beginner casting from the shore, Wilton Farm is your ideal base for an unforgettable angling adventure.

Mullet on the Fly – Precision and Thrill
Master the art of fly fishing for mullet in the warm, shallow waters of the nearby Salcombe Estuary. Known for their cunning, mullet demand stealth and finesse.

Bass Fishing – Coastal Excitement
South Devon’s rocky headlands and sandy beaches, like those near Start Point and Beesands, are bass fishing hotspots.

Boat charters are available locally from Salcombe for days trips and longer further offshore trips.

The waters around Wilton Farm abound with variety. Hook lively mackerel and garfish with float-fished baits in summer, or target po***ck and wrasse near rocky reefs with lures. Flounder and plaice thrive in the estuary’s shallows, while coalfish and the occasional sea trout add surprises. Salcombe’s clear waters also yield conger eels and black bream, ensuring every cast holds potential.

Tackle & Bait Available locally from Ashby Stores.

Day Trips from Wilton Farm, South Devon: Dartmouth and Beyond!

Wilton Farm, nestled in South Devon’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty above the pretty village of South Pool, is the perfect base for unforgettable day trips. With the Salcombe Estuary at your doorstep, you’re ideally placed to explore vibrant coastal towns, charming villages, and countryside gems—all within a short, scenic drive.

Salcombe – Sailing Paradise
A relaxed 20-minute drive (or a lovely 45 minute walk/ferry combination via East Portlemouth) brings you to Salcombe, one of Devon’s most beautiful waterside towns. Famous for its yachting heritage and sheltered estuary, it’s perfect for a full day of coastal charm.

Stroll the boutique shops on Fore Street and Island Street, enjoy fresh seafood with estuary views, or hop on a ferry to South Sands or East Portlemouth beaches. Don’t miss Overbeck’s Garden (National Trust) for subtropical plants and stunning views, or take a coastal walk to Bolt Head. Families love crabbing from the harbour or hiring kayaks and paddleboards. In the evening, savour Salcombe Gin or watch the boats from a harbourside café.

Dartmouth – Maritime Magic
A 50-minute drive or scenic ferry ride from East Portlemouth brings you to this charming riverside town. Stroll the historic quayside where colourful boats bob on the River Dart, visit the 14th-century Dartmouth Castle for stunning estuary views, or hop on a ferry to Greenway House – Agatha Christie’s former holiday home.

Browse boutique shops on Foss Street, enjoy fresh seafood at Rockfish, or take a river cruise to spot seals and kingfishers. The Dartmouth Museum provides a fascinating insight into the town’s seafaring heritage – ideal for all ages.

Kingsbridge – Market Town Charm
Just a 25-minute drive away, Kingsbridge sits on its own estuary. Explore the weekly farmers’ market, wander quirky independent shops along Fore Street, and visit the Cookworthy Museum for local history. Enjoy estuary walks, a coffee at The Pantry, or a pint at the historic Dodbrooke Inn.

Noss Mayo – Hidden Estuary Gem
A peaceful 50 minute drive via Newton Ferrers takes you to this enchanting, chocolate-box village on the River Yealm estuary. Far quieter than Salcombe, Noss Mayo offers a more tranquil escape with stunning coastal walks.

Follow the famous Revelstoke Drive circular walk (around 4–5 miles) along the South West Coast Path for dramatic cliffs, wooded valleys, and estuary views. Cross by seasonal ferry to Newton Ferrers, visit the pretty St Peter’s Church, or enjoy a pint at the Ship Inn. It’s ideal for birdwatching, kayaking, or a relaxed lunch with waterfront views.

Totnes – Bohemian Vibes
A 35-minute drive takes you to Totnes, South Devon’s eclectic hub. Explore its Norman castle, vibrant markets, and hippy-inspired shops. Take a nostalgic steam train ride from Totnes to Buckfastleigh via the South Devon Railway, or visit the nearby Buckfast Abbey for serene gardens and artisan gin. Families will love the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm.

Slapton Sands & Torcross – Coastal History
A quick 20-minute drive leads to Slapton Sands, a 3-mile shingle beach famous for its WWII history and the Sherman tank memorial. Spot wildlife at Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, or grab fish and chips at The Start Bay Inn in Torcross. Perfect for coastal walks and history buffs. Please note that due to the recent winter storms, the road is severely damaged and the route to Dartmouth is impassable.
