Two restaurants. Three awards. One rather proud island... ✨

We’re delighted to share that both our Hotel Restaurant and The Pilchard Inn have been awarded Gold at the Food Drink Devon Awards 2026/27, with our Hotel Restaurant also receiving Silver in the Fine Dining category.

From evenings beneath the chandeliers to pints and plates in a pub that has stood on the island since 1336, they may offer two very different sides of Burgh Island, but both are brought to life by the wonderful people behind them.

A huge congratulations to our kitchen and front-of-house teams, whose care, creativity and hard work have earned this recognition. These awards belong to every one of them 🥂

The Summer Ball, captured in a few rather wonderful frames... ✨

There are some details a photograph catches particularly well. The black tie and sequins. Ch*****ne coupes raised beneath the chandeliers. The Grand Ballroom at its most glamorous. And, of course, a dance floor that rarely stays empty for long.

A little time with an artist can change the way you see the island... 🎨

On 29th October, our Island Artist Emma Carter Bromfield, invites you to spend an afternoon discovering the island through an artist’s eye.

Emma will guide you through her creative process, sharing the techniques behind her work before helping you explore and develop your own. With all materials provided, there’s nothing to bring but a little curiosity.

Coffee and a cream tea are included, with the option to stay overnight and make a little more of your time on the island.

Agatha Christie came here to write. Noël Coward found his way across the water. And next week, Burgh Island welcomes bestselling author Catherine Newman for an afternoon of stories, conversation and Afternoon Tea.

On 15th October, Catherine will take us behind the pages of her newest novel, ‘Wreck’, sharing the ideas and experiences that shape her writing, with a reading and the chance to hear from the author herself.

All enjoyed over Afternoon Tea in The Nettlefold, on an island with a few stories of its own.

An afternoon of stories, conversation and Afternoon Tea, with the sea just beyond the windows... 📚

On 15th October, bestselling author Catherine Newman joins us on Burgh Island to celebrate her newest novel, ‘Wreck’.

Over a traditional Afternoon Tea in The Nettlefold, Catherine will share the inspiration behind the book, offer a glimpse into her writing process and read from ‘Wreck’, with plenty of conversation along the way.

Catherine is the author of ‘We All Want Impossible Things’ and ‘Sandwich’, with both ‘Sandwich’ and ‘Wreck’ becoming instant New York Times bestsellers and her books now translated into 20 languages.

A little chill in the air has never kept us out of the water... 🌊

Carved into the rocks and filled naturally by the tide, our Mermaid Pool offers one of the most invigorating ways to experience Burgh Island, surrounded by rugged coastline and the open sea.

Follow a dip with the warmth of the wood-fired sauna on Bigbury beach, a restorative treatment back at the hotel or a little time taking in the view.

As the seasons turn on Burgh Island, we’re looking back at a few moments from a wonderfully wild summer.

Long days beside the sea, evenings beneath the chandeliers, celebrations, swims and plenty of crossings back and forth across the water.

Today’s autumn equinox marks the beginning of a different chapter for the island. The days may be growing shorter, but there is something rather special about Burgh Island as summer gives way to autumn.

It seems Burgh Island has left another guest rather reluctant to return to the mainland... ✨

We were delighted to welcome Metro travel writer Amanda Cable to the island, where two days brought sea tractor adventures, dry martinis, black tie dining, a dip in the Mermaid Pool and plenty of Art Deco glamour.

Amanda described Burgh Island as far more than a hotel stay, capturing that rather curious feeling of stepping out of the everyday and into a world with its own stories, traditions and characters.

Her final verdict rather made us smile: while Christie’s fictional guests were desperate to escape the island, “we simply wanted to stay forever.”

The wait is almost over... 🥂

Burgh Island is dressed for the occasion, the final preparations are underway, and we’re almost ready to welcome our guests across the water for this year’s Summer Ball.

We cannot wait for the celebrations to begin.
