Have you heard of the Masonic Hall of Fame?

This special exhibition by the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library highlights Freemasons who have made their mark on American History, including men such as George Washington, Ben Franklin, and abolitionist Prince Hall.

Brother Hall was a leading member of Boston's African American community during the 18th century, campaigning for schools for Black children, fighting for equal rights for Black Americans, and working to help abolish slavery. After being barred from joining Freemasonry because of his race, he also founded Prince Hall Freemasonry, a historically Black organization which continues to thrive today.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a day for honoring the memory of the 11 million people murdered by the N**i German regime and their accomplices.

The N**is believed that Freemasonry was an integral part of "the Jewish conspiracy", and singled out Freemasonry for destruction upon assuming power. On October 28th, 1934, a decree was issued declaring Masonic Lodges to be "hostile to the state", with their property subject to seizure. On August 17th, 1935, Masonic organizations in Germany were dissolved and their assets confiscated.

Freemasons were held in concentration camps, identified by red upside down triangles on their uniforms. Up to 200,000 were killed.

It was great visiting the Humber 57 Lodge last night to see the new Master Installed. Visitors from Technical Lodge were there in force and claimed the Travelling Gavel - a trophy held by whichever Lodge brings the most visitors on the night! The gavel now goes to Technical, until another Lodge claims it from them.

The Travelling Gavel was a great idea conceived originally by Humber 57 themselves to encourage visiting between lodges. Hull Old Grammarians have claimed it once...on a trip to Alexander Lodge in Bridlington. It would be nice to get our hands on it again...

Installation night and Hull Old Grammarians have a new WM and a new team. Onwards and upwards.

AN END TO THE LETTERS

Monroe and Sadler's correspondence seemed to stop in 1907 with no clear reason. Monroe would have been extremely busy as Grand Secretary, while Sadler retired as Grand Tyler in 1911.

The two had remained ever helpful to each other.

Monroe remained an active Freemason until his death in 1929, and is remembered affectionately as an influential figure in achieving recognition for African-American
