After a lot of deliberating I have finally decided it is time to hang up my frying pan and retire. The B&B will close its' door for the final time on 29th September 2025.

Having started my working life at the age of 15, I feel the time is right to stop and enjoy 'working' on my hobbies and interests full time.

It has been a pleasure to meet and greet all of the wonderful people, and dogs, who have come to stay, with many who returned numerous times.

I wish every one health and happiness.

Love
Dee (and Rafa the cat, Twig and Spike)

Are you wanting a few days away? Do you fancy exploring a new part of the UK? Have you thought about Scotland? Dumfries and Galloway is a gem. With rolling hills, woodlands, burns (small rivers), lochs, beaches, historic buildings, there is something for everyone.

Kirkcudbright is the perfect location within D&G to explore the region.

Due to an unexpected cancellation a room has become available from this Saturday.

You are welcome to bring your dog, and if you have some mobility issues the house is all on one level, including the guest lounge and guest sunroom.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dee

After a very busy week, I was really touched to read the latest comment in my Guest book. It means so much.

I then took a moment to read a few more comments. It is so satisfying to feel my hard work is appreciated.

Kirkcudbright is on the cusp of the summer season of festivities. There is so much to see and do in this gem of a corner of Scotland.

Why not book and come and make your own memories in this stunning part of the UK.

I look forward to welcoming you.

Dee

I could not agree more with Scotland Magazine's article, showing a great image of Kirkcudbright, that Dumfries and Galloway is a superb place to visit. I know I am biased, but Dumfries and Galloway has everything. Kirkcudbright is centrally located along the A75, so makes for a perfect base location.

Barrhill Woods B&B is located in Kirkcudbright, with stunning views over the river and town, which can be admired from the guest lounge or the guest sunroom.

Check out the website for more information.

I look forward to welcoming you and your dog(s).

Best wishes
Dee

Compared with other parts of the country, southwest Scotland is shamefully under-visited.

While there are diehard Robert Burns fans who come to follow in the Bard’s footsteps, for the most part it’s a region that’s overlooked by visitors who are drawn instead to the headline-grabbing attractions of the Highlands. But more fool them.

Here are 7 of the best places to visit in Dumfries and Galloway: https://www.discoverbritain.com/journey-planning/things-to-do/best-things-to-do-in-dumfries-and-galloway/

Just love it, watching Robson Green's Weekend Escapes, with his mate Mark Benton, here in Dumfries and Galloway.

If you want some adventure the canyoning looks like great fun.

Just check out Galloway Canyoning.

The Beach they had a cup of tea at is only 10/15 minutes from the B&B.

I love where I live.

Review of Barrhill Woods Bed & Breakfast

Fabulous Find!
Barrhills Woods B&B isn't just any B&B: it is a superb B&B.
My 97yr old mother isn't quite as mobile as she used to be, but she returned from our visit to Kirkcudbright with a spring in her step due to having had a fabulous break away at Barrhills.
Having done much research online, I discovered Denise at Barrhills had made subtle adaptations to the accommodation to make it 'accessible' for those with limited mobility.
What a find!
My mum loved having a room to herself where she felt safe and able to manage independently, whilst my room was just 'nextdoor'.
We shared the guest sitting/dining room with stunning views across Kirkcudbright to the River Dee estuary and beyond, and relaxed in the sunroom.
Denise couldn't have been a more attentive, caring, bubbly host. Her cooked breakfast was second to none! (and mum and I have enjoyed breakfasts all around the world, in many different establishments).
Our bedrooms were simply furnished, but equipped with everything we needed. The ensuite bathrooms were a generous size, and immaculate. Toiletries and towels were provided.
Mum and I didn't make it around Barrhill Woods, just a stone's throw from the accommodation, as mum's mobility isn't what it used to be. We did however manage a couple of short walks along the quayside, and were blessed with a lovely sunset just a short drive away along the coast.
Mum and I had a fantastic experience and certainly intend to return to Barrhills B&B.
A rare gem of a place, run by a great lady who made us feel so welcome, and so looked after. Worth every single star of our 5* review.

Date of stay: May 2024

INFO

Located in the delightful harbour town on the River Dee, Kirkcudbright is a gem in Dumfries and Galloway

If you love walking, cycling, fishing, golf, art, photography you couldn’t do any better than visit Dumfries and Galloway and more importantly Kirkcudbright. With its range of independent shops and many galleries, it is known as the Artists Town.

Barrhill Woods B&B has 3 tasteful, elegant and very comfortable double bedrooms. Two of the rooms can be set up as doubles or twins. Two rooms have ensuite facilities, the third has a private bathroom, which is also set up to help those who are a little less mobile. The B&B is located in an elevated position above the town just beneath Barrhill Woods. It is just a short walk into the town to sample the delights it has to offer.

If it is wildlife and photography you are interested in, look no further than Barrhill Woods which are just a minute or two’s walk away, with a wildlife hide that is easy, and free, to access. You should hopefully get some delightful images of the native birds and mammals (red squirrels being one).
