The Red Lion, Knighton

The Red Lion, Knighton Call us for reservations & availability on 01547 428080 or email [email protected] We offer4-star accommodation our individually decorated rooms.

The Red Lion sits just over the Welsh border in the historic market town of Knighton; the town itself actually straddles the border between Powys and Shropshire. With excellent access to both cycling and walking paths (two National Trails meet here) it is the perfect place from which to explore the beautiful Welsh Marches. We aim to offer something refreshingly different in a traditional inn setti

ng. Cordon bleu trained chef Charlotte Turner-Taylor will be creating a changing menu, offering freshly prepared, tasty meals that are tailored to the seasons. Food will reflect the excellent produce of the local area, with suppliers mostly coming from within a 30-mile radius. Our seasonal menu offers light and not-so-light bites, three course evening meals and tapas, all cooked on the premises. Our bar boasts a rotating selection of the finest local ales, alongside an interesting and carefully selected wine list. The bright and spacious bar area is an excellent place to relax with a pint and put the world to rights, or simply have a bite to eat and warm yourself by the logburner.

Sorry to disappoint anyone, but contrary to the posting in Aprils 'Broad Sheep' we are NOT hosting a Sunday Evening Chill on the 28th of April, and do not understand how it came to be included in the listings. None of us here at the Red Lion have been in touch with 'Broad Sheep' so it is a mystery to us! Sorry

Thanks for the Thanks
Dear friends,
I went in to see Tom at the butchers last week and expected just to pay my monthly bill. Imagine how surprised I was when he presented me with the wonderful gift of a spa break for two. I know he will tell you that I was genuinely emotional and speechless.
I understand that whilst I was encouraging you all to drink significantly at the 'Regulars evening', there was a collection going on in the background. I am truely touched by the gift and I have appreciated all the kindness and messages from the last month. I am convinced that we must have had a pretty good relationship and that we have actually made some good friends in Knighton. I am happy now to take advantage, in the nicest way, of your friendship and join you on the public side of the bar.
I feel that I have to say it again - "Thanks for the thanks"!
We have no great plans as yet but we are very much appreciating time to do some things and relax (a little). We will both see you around soon.
Best regards and much love,
Neil and Cath

Dear Friends and Customers,

It is will a very heavy heart that I want to announce the closure of our restaurant. We have served our wonderful meals for three years which is an achievement that I am proud of and it has made my dream come true. We have always maintained high standards and for the last 2 years we have been in the top 10 restaurants in Powys which is no mean feat for a small pub in Knighton. For a very brief period this year we even topped that particular table beating off the experiences of some great restaurants including those with Michelin ratings. I think that counts as success.

The Red Lion will continue to provide Bed and Breakfast accommodation and do its part for the walkers and the many visitors to our town. We will keep it looking smart because the worst thing we could do was to close completely and have another Knighton landmark closed to public. We plan to still be a relaxing stay for those who come through the door.

I could say that all good things come to an end, but apart from being a bit cheesy I would rather say that all good efforts deserve a new start. Cath and I are going to work on the next phase of our hectic lives and two things are really important; We will have more time with our family and friends and some time to get ourselves back to good health.

Thank you so much for your custom over the last three years. We have had great times, lots of laughs and you have made us feel welcome as part of a super community. We have not gone away so we will continue to reap the benefits of the Knighton hospitality.

We're going to be holding a 'Regulars night' on Thursday 27th September from 8pm to celebrate our time in Knighton with our customers support. We'd love to see you there.

With much love.
Neil and Cath
