Lower Thrushgill

Lower Thrushgill is a remote farmhouse tucked away on the fell above the village of Wray. Built in the 17th century the house has enjoyed several incarnations, from Quaker Meeting House, working farm to family home and most recently, Bed and Breakfast. It is still very much a home, warmed by woodburning fires and an Aga and shared with two dogs and a cat – and quite often waifs and strays that nee

d looking after. The views from the property are, quite simply, stunning. On a clear day you can see across to the edge of the Lake District to the north and to the east, Ingleborough and Whernside, two of Yorkshire’s ‘Three Peaks’. A little closer, the valley rolls away across to the hamlet of Lowgill, with rich woodland clothing the lower slopes down towards the River Hindburn. The wildflowers are prolific and the birdlife is a twitcher’s paradise. The idea of offering Creativity Weekends came from the many favourable comments of visitors over the years. ‘That view is just amazing.’ ‘You don’t need a telly with a vista like that!’ ‘Gosh, I wish I could draw and capture it.’ So, when West Country artist, teacher and great friend Trudi Day came to visit, we wondered why we had waited to long to collaborate! We’ve decided to offer a weekend of indulgence, enjoyment and relaxation. You won’t get hot tubs, champagne and glitz but you will get terrific farmhouse cookery, a comfy room and tuition, help and encouragement from Trudi (trudiday.com) to explore your hidden talents. Add to that wonderful fresh air, lovely walks, a good dollop of chatter and laughter and a complementary glass of wine to welcome you to Thrushgill. We welcome non-participating partners and can provide tasty packed lunches should they wish to walk, cycle, bird watch or even just chill. If you let us know in advance, we can come up with suggested local walks or cycle routes. We could also chat to the local Environmental Consultant to check out what is about, be it flora or fauna.
