We're delighted to share some brilliant news.

Following a recent AA inspection (our very first one), The Fleece Inn has been awarded AA 4-Star Silver Inn status and an AA Dinner Award 2026 🏆

Silver means we're exceeding 4-star standard, and The Dinner Award recognises the quality coming out of our kitchen. The inspector's words were "quality ingredients, thoughtful sourcing, well-executed cooking."

Together with our title as Best Pub in the UK 2025, we're over the moon.

When we renovated the Fleece, we ripped up the carpets and found the original flagstone floors underneath.

In the 1950s they'd been asphalted over and carpeted. We lifted every flag, numbered each one, cleaned them, insulated the floor to modern standards, and laid them back exactly as they were.

Worth it, we think.

Our tables were made from a tree that fell on land we own in the Lakes.

The timber was loaded onto the narrow gauge railway in Eskdale and brought down the valley to Ravenglass.

The wood went to the sawmill to create the tables you sit at today.
