Beautiful

...there may well be a more serene and tranquil spot to plant a picnic table in the Scottish Borders. I am sure someone will pop up and say "but what about here..." - it happens, sadly. That not being the case and the ban hammer not being needed, I offer unto thee this spot as current champion for the aforementioned accolade of mega braw serene tranquil spot of much magicness. Golden light on the spire at St Mary Wedale in Stow rounds off the scene, with the old packhorse bridge making a sneaky wee cameo. I do like Stow...

Did you know......

Fatlips Castle is a pele tower in Roxburghshire in the Scottish Borders. Situated at the top of Minto Crags above the River Teviot, it was built in the 16th century by the Turnbulls of Barnhills, notorious Border reivers and owners of nearby Barnhills Tower and farm. In 1545, during the War of the Rough Wooing, the Earl of Hertfordburned "Mantoncrake", or Mynto Crag.

The castle is said to have obtained its unusual name from the habit of the members of the house to greet guests with less discretion than was considered decent at the time.

One of the pleasures of a visit to Fatlips used to be that "every gentleman, by indefeasible privilege, kisses one of the ladies on entering the ruin.

Interesting that hotel sites are now being picked up for false information on their sites something I am happy about as they do put pressure on customers with there last room details and prices. For the correct information on rooms and prices contact us direct through this face book page. 😃
