🚐🏕️ Campervan & Caravan Security Advice 🏕️🚐
With spring and summer travel season approaching, we’re reminding owners of campervans and caravans to take simple but effective steps to reduce the risk of theft.
✅ Secure it properly
• Always use approved hitch locks and wheel clamps, even when you’re parking for a short time. Using more than one visible security measure can deter criminals.
• Consider fitting an alarm or immobiliser where possible. Police Scotland recommend products that have the Police Preferred Specification Secured by Design
✅ Think about where you park
• At home, park your caravan or campervan out of sight, gated, or with another vehicle blocking it in.
• On site, choose well lit areas and reputable sites with security measures in place. CaSSOA accredited sites are surveyed independently and offer varying levels of security to meet your needs and are recognised by insurers for saving on your premiums
✅ Protect your keys
• Never leave keys inside the vehicle or nearby.
• Keep spare keys secure and consider a Faraday pouch to prevent keyless vehicle theft.
✅ Mark and record your property
• Property mark your campervan/caravan and valuable contents using a recognised marking system.
• Keep a record of make, model, VIN number, serial numbers and photographs—this can help recovery if stolen.
✅ Remove temptations
• When not in use, remove valuables, documents, and personal items.
• Secure doors, windows, roof vents and lockers every time you leave.
✅ Trust your instincts
• If something doesn’t look right, report suspicious activity to Police Scotland on 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
A few extra minutes spent on security can make a big difference. Let’s keep our campervans and caravans safe so we can all enjoy travelling with peace of mind.
