When you stay with us, there’s history all around you - and our beams are proof of that.

They run through the bedrooms and bathrooms, and have been here since the 1830s. They were part of the farm complex long before anyone thought about turning this place into somewhere to stay.

This is what it's like staying somewhere with real history - it shows up in places you weren't expecting.

Not all gate posts end up as gate posts. 🌿

We met Dave at this year's NestFest - a local maker who'd recently settled in the area and has been creating beautiful things with reclaimed oak. One thing led to another, and we swapped a disused gatepost from our paddock for a set of his lamps!

The lamps have been in The Kiln, Welsh Cottage and Long Barn with shades hand-crafted by Angela. One of our guests liked his work so much she got her hands on one of Dave's serving bowls for her own dinner table.

These are the kind of things that happen when you stay somewhere rooted in community.

It took many evenings, a good podcast, and the kind of focus that only happens when your hands are busy and your mind is free. 🌿

Every cottage has something made by Angela:
🫶🏼 A hand-sewn cushion cover.
🫶🏼 A knitted hot water bottle cover.
🫶🏼 A lamp shade.
🫶🏼 A hops-stencilled headboard.
🫶🏼 An upcycled chest or shelf.
🫶🏼 And the cake waiting for you on arrival.

These things were made to make your cottage stay feel like a home.

Still a little surreal seeing White House Cottages on the telly!

We've received so many kind words and messages from our local community, previous guests, families, and friends. All these people have played a part in our journey, so a very special thank you from us. ❤️

We’ve spent years welcoming people to Aylton and sharing our favourite walks, local producers and little corners of Herefordshire with guests, so having the crew come and tell a small part of our story felt pretty special.

And yes, we’re still talking about the tandem ride!

We're on the telly, and we're still not quite over it! 📺❤️

White House Cottages has been featured in Mini Escapes - a segment on BBC One's Escape to the Country where former city dwellers share how moving to the countryside changed their lives.

Jules Hudson and his team came to see us in Aylton, tried the local produce, and we rode our tandem together to taste life in the slow lane. We got a proper slice of countryside life and shared the story of what brought us here - and why we've never looked back.

Turns out we had plenty in common - Jules, like Paul, is a proud Visit Visit Herefordshire Tourism Ambassador, and he and his partner run their own beautiful shepherd's hut retreat in the Wye Valley. 🐑

One of our favourite moments? Sharing a glass of award-winning fizz from 1276 Wines | Herefordshire Vineyard & Winery - just one of the amazing adventures our guests can enjoy while staying with us. 🥂

A special thank you to Jules and the Escape to the Country crew - this is a moment we will remember for the rest of our lives ❤️

Fresh eggs collected from up the lane before breakfast. Ancient orchards to wander through with the dogs off-lead. Dark skies and a telescope ready to go when the evening draws in.

Consider this your sign. 🌿

The British summer is doing its thing right now - long evenings, warm enough to sit outside, light until almost ten. The school holidays are here and the weeks have a way of disappearing faster than you expect.

We only some dates left in August!

Five cottages, an orchard, the Herefordshire Way on the doorstep and a firepit that nobody ever wants to leave.
