Last year we saw a different trend for Christmas parties. Not just food and drink - although there was plenty of that - but events that included activities.

We have had casinos, ceilidhs, terrarium making workshops, wreath making and hilarious Hell's Kitchen competitions.

What makes a good barn venue?

Not all barns are the same. The best ones share a few important qualities:

• Natural light and good proportions

• Flexible layouts that adapt to different uses

• Easy access and practical parking

• A sense of character

• Convenience: good heating, hot water and decent loos

The Barns at Barton Court were restored with these things in mind – spaces to work hard but comfortably in

People ask how a party actually works across our two barns.

The flow we suggest is this: arrivals and drinks in the Saw Mill, dinner in the Dutch Barn, then back into the Saw Mill afterwards for drinks and more conversation while the other room is turned round for dancing.

Up to 95 sitting down. bartoncourt.co.uk/contact

Ever wondered wanted to see what it's like inside Barton Court? Or wondered about the ghost and the story behind it?
On Wednesday 4 November, we’re opening the house for a small Christmas Paperwhite planting morning. It's a ritual that we do every year in memory of my mother-in-law and, this year, we would like to share it with some of you.
While I plant up the tureen, you’ll plant your own bowl of Paperwhites to take home and flower for Christmas. We have ordered some beautiful white ceramic planters and you will get all the materials you need to complete the task under Tina's friendly supervision.
We'll enjoy coffee, cake and a light lunch and I will take you round the house and tell you about some of its history.
It’s a chance to spend a few convivial hours at Barton Court, see inside the house, and make something lovely to take home for Christmas.
10am-2pm | £65 per person | 16 places

Why flexibility matters

The barns are not fixed-format event spaces.

That means:

• tables and chairs can be arranged as needed

• the space works for small groups or fuller rooms

•events can be formal or informal without feeling out of place

For many people, this makes planning simpler.

You’re not trying to adapt your event to the venue - the venue adapts to you.

Not a glamorous checklist, but these things matter in December when you are planning a party

1. Is it warm? Our barns have underfloor heating throughout, so coats can come off.

2. Can we park? Yes, we have around fifty parking spaces, on site, free and a couple of EV chargers as well

3. Can we stay late? We have a licence until midnight.
