✏️ Caroline Brooks presents Foundations of Academic Drawing, and Learning to see in colour. Two 12-week intensive courses in classical realist drawing and oil painting, at Convention House.

Foundations of Academic Drawing

The course focuses on construction, value and the disciplined observation that underpins convincing representational drawing. Across twelve weeks, participants work through shape and volume construction, value and form, sustained still life, and Bargue plate studies of the head, facial features and figure, the classical atelier method of developing accuracy, visual analysis and draftsmanship. Teaching combines the structured methodology of the classical atelier with practical demonstrations, individual feedback and incremental skill building.

-

Learning to See in Colour

Participants begin in monochrome, building confidence handling oil paint alongside a secure understanding of value before colour is introduced, then progress through a limited palette into full-colour still life painting. Teaching combines structured demonstrations, practical studio exercises and individual critique, developing a dependable painting process from the initial block in through to final refinements.

Both courses begin in September, and run on Tuesdays and Sundays until December.

We will also be joined by the amazing Footprint Workers Co-op who will be at the Convention on Saturday, with riso wares for sale and info about the services they offer.
