Body of Knowledge, Brighton College
Brighton, England, UK
English fine bone china

Body of Knowledge is suspended in the centre of the Gilbert Scott staircase at the entrance to the library, in Brighton College, England. Sculpted and created by Dominic and Frances Bromley, the piece measures 1m diameter and 6m tall. The human forms, each 23cm tall, come together as a group to form a larger body with a light at its centre: A body of knowledge… the sum of the wealth of education and enlightenment offered by the College.

Dominic and Frances Bromley (aka Scabetti) were approached to create the centre piece for this remarkable home in Fowey, Cornwall.
This custom built Shoal now appears to weave effortlessly beneath the roof lantern in the centre of the villa. Changing dramatically as the coastal light moves through and is reflected around each translucent fine bone china fish.

“I was so determined to have a piece of your work in this house. It means a lot to me… I’m thrilled…it exceeds expectations! Thank you.”
Lady Anne Evans.

Having with us during this installation meant we were lucky enough to have some great ‘in process’ shots. This is Dom up a ladder during the build.

A sculpture that means a lot to us, in a rather special home in Fowey, on the Cornish coast.

You can see the soft shadow the platinum artwork creates in the translucent ceramic body.

Creating art and design gives Dom and I a sense of peace and fulfilment but also business security when we receive a commission or make a sale.

We created the Shoal in the photo below for a couple who were moved to commission from us. A message that arrived with the photos last week, sent a couple of years after they had lived with the sculpture in their home, put a physical smile on my face and softened the overwhelm I sometimes feel in life.

“We’ve loved art for a long time, and built the home with that in mind.  Your piece hangs on display with pieces by Andy Warhol, Orlinski, Haring, Britto, Max, Chihuly and others.  It fits in nicely…
Thanks for your work.  It brings us joy every day.”

Perhaps this is the value in creativity that can’t be measured on a spreadsheet, bank balance or algorithm?
