🚂 DID YOU KNOW? – THE CHURNET VALLEY RAILWAY

Just a few miles from Hollydale Barns lies one of Staffordshire’s loveliest heritage railways. Steam trains wind through the beautiful Churnet Valley along a route whose history dates all the way back to 1849.

The railway has transported everything from Victorian passengers to quarry stone and wartime workers — and part of its route was even built along the bed of an old canal! During WWII the line served a munitions factory at Froghall, while nearby Alton Towers was being used to train Royal Artillery officers.

Today, thanks largely to decades of restoration work by volunteers, you can once again travel through the valley behind magnificent steam and heritage locomotives.

They also run special event days throughout the year, which can include things like dining trains, afternoon tea or cream tea experiences, seasonal events, family days, themed trains and Christmas/Santa services. They also host enthusiast events with visiting locomotives and heritage diesel or steam galas.

We have no idea the exact date when Maisey’s little one will decide to make an appearance… but what we do know is she’s due. Her hips have lifted ( which is a sure sign she’s ready)

Meet the Highland Fold we have at Hollydale Barns

If you’re lucky enough to stay with us then we feel you should get to know some of the most popular residents you may meet on your stay.

We have a fold of 5 currently however we are so excited and and are anticipating the arrival of 2 new ones being Maiseys baby and Persias.

These will be our first home breds and so we are all on pins at the moment as Maisey is getting very close to her due date.
