You've done the miles, the boots are off, and the rich aroma of a proper Yorkshire breakfast is already drifting down the hall. This is the moment walkers quietly plan their entire morning around. Unlike generic hotel buffets or cold self-catering kitchens, we prepare your breakfast fresh to order, and it is always included in your room rate. After a hot shower with premium toiletries, you can head down to a plate of thick-cut bacon, local sausage, and perfectly poached eggs, all paired with a hot brew of local tea ☕

Each of our cozy rooms is named after the very Dales valleys you have spent the day exploring, grounding your whole experience in the landscape. Whether you are returning to Swaledale or Bishopdale, we make sure there is fresh milk waiting in your fridge and a warm welcome at the door.

A couple drove past Aysgarth Falls without stopping because they thought it was 'just a waterfall.' Two hundred years of visitors would disagree.

Most people visiting the Yorkshire Dales in summer plan their trips around the most famous landmarks, but the region's most rewarding spots get overlooked. From the towering drop of Hardraw Force tucked behind a pub to the peaceful, crowd-free ruins of Jervaulx Abbey, the best days out are rarely the ones on the standard tourist maps.

We love sharing these local secrets with our guests over a proper brew to help them find a little Yorkshire magic. Swipe through to discover three spectacular places most visitors never find, and start planning your next Wensleydale escape.

The cottage looked perfect on paper.

Then the first morning vanished hunting for a supermarket. The second went on figuring out the hob. By the third, they were quietly wishing someone had just told them where to walk.

That's the thing about self-catering in the Dales. It feels like freedom, right up until you realise you're still doing the things you do at home, only in someone else's kitchen.

At Grove House, breakfast is already on. Parking is sorted. The bikes are locked away safely overnight. And when you come down and ask, "where should we go today?", you get a proper answer, not a laminated sheet in a drawer.

The Shawl for a gentle morning. Aysgarth Falls when the light is right. Bolton Castle if the little ones are with you. Jervaulx Abbey for somewhere quieter. We've walked them all, and in June specifically we'll tell you which route is worth the boots and which café to stop at on the way back.

That's not less freedom. That's a head start every single morning.

Taylors of Harrogate tea, fresh local milk replenished every morning, and a simple kettle waiting in your room.

Some details are too small to mention, but they are far too important to skip.

When you stay away from home, it is often the grand gestures that make the brochures. But we have always believed that genuine hospitality lives in the quiet, considered things. It is in the reassurance of a proper brew, made exactly how you like it, before you even head down to the dining room for breakfast.

After a long day walking across Wensleydale or exploring the market square here in Leyburn, returning to your room should feel like a relief. There is a simple comfort in hearing the water boil, pouring a proper mug of tea with real milk from the local dairy, and watching the steam rise against the quiet evening. What remains when you strip away the unnecessary noise of travel is just this: a warm cup, made properly, in a peaceful space.

Whether you are planning a short autumn break or a quiet walking holiday in the Yorkshire Dales, our rooms are ready to welcome you. You can book your next escape directly with us by visiting www.grovehouseleyburn.com or by calling us on 01969 622569.

Golden evenings on the Shawl. This is the week for it.

The summer solstice lands on Sunday, and right now the light over Wensleydale holds gold until well past 9pm. The Leyburn Shawl, that long escarpment looking out over the valley, empties out beautifully once the day-trippers have driven home. Walk it after dinner and you'll have the view almost to yourself, with plenty of light to spare for the stroll back into town.

It's a short, gentle climb from the market square, no special kit needed, and the payoff is one of the finest evening views in the Dales. Most people don't think to plan a Yorkshire break around the longest days of the year, but this is genuinely the loveliest fortnight in our calendar.

We've got a handful of rooms free this week and next if you fancy catching the valley at golden hour. Book now by visiting www.grovehouseleyburn.com or calling 01969 622569.

You drove through the rolling dales to get here, and now the window of your room looks straight out over the garden and the wooded copse beyond.

Midsummer in Wensleydale has a particular kind of light. It catches the river in the middle distance, throws shadows across the stone walls, and turns the cottage garden into something close to a painting.

The only real decision of the morning is whether to pull on your boots and walk the Leyburn Shawl before breakfast, with the dales waking up around you, or after, once you've had a proper brew and a plate of something cooked.

There's no wrong answer. There rarely is at Grove House.

B&B breakfast made to order, or hotel buffet free-for-all. Which side are you on?

There's something properly lovely about coming downstairs to a Yorkshire breakfast cooked just for you. Crispy bacon, eggs the way you actually like them, sausages from the local butcher, a pot of tea that hasn't been sat under a heat lamp for an hour.

No queueing with a tray. No lukewarm scrambled eggs. No hunting for clean cutlery.

Just a quiet table, a proper brew, and a chat about what you're planning to get up to in the Dales today.

We know the buffet has its fans (all that choice, all that bacon), but at Grove House we'll always be on team made-to-order. So tell us honestly, which camp are you in?

To hear that we served the best breakfast a guest has enjoyed in a long time means absolutely everything to us. When Jo Fisher stayed with us, Adrian prepared a proper full Yorkshire breakfast using fresh, local produce, from sizzling sausage and bacon to perfectly poached eggs. We always want our guests to feel completely looked after, and knowing Dustin and Adrian made Jo feel so welcome makes all the hard work worthwhile. If you are ready for a relaxing escape in Wensleydale with a breakfast that sets you up perfectly for a day in the Dales, we would love to welcome you. Staying with us this summer? Here's where we'd actually send you.

Three day trips, all within easy reach of Grove House, and not a long drive in sight.

The Leyburn Shawl for a 1.5-mile escarpment walk straight from town (go early and you'll have those Wensleydale views almost to yourself). Aysgarth Falls for the light through the trees that Turner once sketched. And Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was once held, with battlement views that genuinely earn the climb.

Grove House sits right in the middle of all of it. Book your summer stay at www.grovehouseleyburn.com or call us on 01969 622569.

You know the routine in most hotels. A lukewarm UHT pod, a paper sachet of something beige, and a kettle you have to hunt for behind the wardrobe.

We do things a little differently at Grove House.

In every room you'll find a proper selection of Taylors of Harrogate teas, Cadbury's hot chocolate for the colder evenings, and fresh local milk replenished daily, so your 6am brew before a walk up Penhill tastes the way it should. The kettle is already waiting. The Bramley toiletries are already in the bathroom. The bathrobe is already on the back of the door.

Small things, perhaps. But they're the ones you remember long after you've gone home.
