With International Day of Happiness just around the corner, we thought we’d share a few of the things you can look forward to when staying here.

Whether you’re visiting with family, as a couple, or with friends, there’s plenty to enjoy nearby this spring - from Easter trails and farm parks to woodland cinemas, brewery tours and coastal walks.

Boston is just a short drive (or taxi) away if you fancy hopping on the train straight into Lincoln for a day out. Even closer are lovely little towns and villages like Woodhall Spa, Tattershall and others dotted around the Wolds - all full of small, slightly hidden treasures.

And of course, being in Lincolnshire is also about getting away from the hustle and bustle. There are miles of public footpaths, fen and Wolds trails to explore, plus beautiful spots like South Ormsby Estate and the wide open beaches along the coast.

If you’re planning a visit, visitlincolnshire.co.uk has a great round-up of events and ideas for things to do while you’re here.

Deep in the Lincolnshire Fens lives a rare creature known as the Sidestepping Sheepherder. Even harder to spot than the Loch Ness Monster… but far better at lateral movement. We caught a glimpse on camera - and by goodness, does he sidestep. 🐑

A welcome glimpse of sunshine the other day and it finally feels like spring might be on its way.

After a winter of small fixes, freshening up and a little maintenance behind the scenes, the cottage is feeling ready for the year ahead. And with the lighter evenings returning, we’re starting to see more bookings coming in too.

If you’re thinking about a quiet escape to the fens, drop us a message to book. A little reminder as well that we offer a discounted rate if you’d prefer to stay without use of the hot tub.

Trees in. 🌱

We’ve begun planting a new area of woodland in the middle field along the footpath, with support from the Forestry Commission. It’s a mixed broadleaf planting with about 10% left open, so the trees have space to grow and the views aren’t lost.

In time it should boost biodiversity, offer shelter for wildlife and make the walk across the field even greener.

A small start now but give it a few years!

The Lincolnshire coast is one of those places that quietly surprises you. Long, open beaches, big skies and plenty of space to breathe – perfect if you love the sea but prefer a little peace with it. Spots like Huttoft (often called Moggs Eye) and Anderby Creek offer miles of sand, dunes and sea air, ideal for an unhurried wander with or without the dogs. Sutton-on-Sea is another laid back favourite, with its relaxed promenade and the North Sea Observatory café giving you a front-row seat to the horizon. If you’re after a little more classic seaside energy, Skegness has the arcades, rides, rollercoasters and its lively promenade – a proper British seaside day out.

Fun fact: the Lincolnshire coastline stretches for around 50 miles, and when the tide goes out it leaves vast expanses of sand that make the beaches feel even bigger than they already are.

Please note: in Skegness, some central beach areas restrict dogs between 1 May and 30 September, so check local signage and keep dogs on leads where required. 🌊🐾

Little person… or very big grass?
We’ll let you decide.

Ashby Puerorum is one of those places you don’t stumble on by accident - just 20 minutes from The Saddle House and perfect for a winter wander.

Start at the church, follow the public footpaths, bring the dog.
You may (or may not) encounter something… human-sized.

Borrower rumours remain unconfirmed.

P.S. For any friends and family reading - Gemma is still in Canada.
This is a throwback to a February a few years ago.

Spring has arrived early!
Frances’s Zwartbles had a New Year surprise for us all. We’re happy to report they’re healthy and doing well. On your next visit, why not pop your head into the shed and say hello.

Throwback to frosty field walks three years ago today ❄️
Harvey had a bit more spring back then, and while we miss Dolly, these are the memories that make us smile.

Has winter shown up where you are yet? Proper frosts, snowy mornings, cold air that makes a walk feel extra good.

If you’re here with your dogs, just pop Gill or Pete a message - they’ll point you towards the best walks, including one straight from the door. Here’s to fresh air, steady paces, and plenty more walks ahead.
