Rebuilding Victoria Hall

Rebuilding Victoria Hall Heritage Protection is an independent community driven effort to protect and revitalise the heritage and form of the currently dilapidated Victoria Hall.

The Victoria Halls has been somewhat of a focal point, recognisable and in prime location for almost 130 years since the buildings foundations were laid in 1887. Through the centuries the building has seen through wrack and ruin, waves of demolitions, potential plans and eventual closure in 1991. The town has never known any better than the Victoria Jubilee Hall which has stood prominent for years

on end, seen through almost five generations and has stayed in it's current form, unused for 26 years. It was built as a tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria for her Jubilee, a signal to the regal days of the Linlithgow Town Council to serve as a Town Hall for the people of the Royal Burgh Linlithgowshire. The Commercial Bank of Scotland building mimics the ornate turrets and elaborate designs that once shaped the building. To revitalise and resserect such an architecturally detailed building would be in any case an entitlement for the town to be recognised as a place for heritage. The Halls shapes the high street and is similar in materials to the Burgh Halls and County Buildings. It is a style of which should be embraced and rejuvenated to adhere to the architectural heyday that once followed, and that is the true aim of the Victoria Hall Heritage Protection and the Victoria Ritz Project that will be aimed to achieve through it.

A superimposed exemplar of the building under what would be the proposed method HLF funding involving dismantling, recording and rebuilding the building with new sandstone blocks and securing the land to prevent subsidence of which plagues the current hall. The only salvageable areas are that surrounding the door and some other detailings including the sash windows and old projectors that could be used as memorabilia. It is projected that if the building should be rebuilt to a high environmental and energy efficiency level through the use of insulation and triple glazing furthermore through the use of renewable power sources such as solar panels then the running costs could be significantly reduced allowing maximised profit on a building that would otherwise be demolished for a less environmentally focused new build with divided uses that would not only be at concern to the environment but also have significant affect on the last section of high street exempt from modern development since the late 1800s and also help revive and attend to the rare Scottish Baronial style in which the Victoria Hall is designed with.

(The Victoria Ritz Project is supported and campaigned for by the Independent Victoria Hall Heritage Protection partnership of which only acts as a forefront and to showcase the work undertaken by us as local individuals who are resident to Linlithgow)

This is conveying across and implementing on how the Victoria Hall would look like if rebuilt to it's standard form. Concerns over detrimental effects on the skyline are without much basis, as the Halls would improve the historic appearance and history of the High Street.
