We found this Tawny Owl on the path leading down to the lakes. Unfortunatly it had a bad injury and looks like it had been attacked (possibly by a female Sparrowhawk) so we took it into one of the Liskeard vets. Thankfully the Youngsters have all fledged a while ago now and this is an older Owl. Having recently visited Screech Owl sanctuary, it was interesting to hear that Tawny Owls are prone to taking small fish out of ponds as one of their meals.
Not a very good picture but this is one of the Greater spotted Woodpecker chicks just learning to feed. The young have a big patch of red at the front of the head which disappears as it matures (not to be confused with the Male, who has a red patch at the back of its head permanently. The mother was working very hard to encourage it to feed itself!!

Looe beach is perfect for a quick dip and is safe as it goes off very shallow on lovely sand. Great first thing in the morning or at the end of the day when it’s quieter (we have been known to do them both in the same day as it’s so refreshing.

Lanhydrock house and gardens is owned by the national trust and is lovely to look around and is close to Bodmin .

Well the weather has been quite changeable over the past month or so and we have had very warm one week to cool and wet the following but the warm weather has certainly brought up the water and it’s been around 24 degrees recently. The fish tend to be a little lazy during the day but are quite keen to make up for that in the early evening or first thing in the morning. It’s still nice to see that they are being caught throughout the day though and on a complete variety of baits.

Some photos of recent catches (from within the last few weeks) that have been sent along to us. If there are any more, or I have forgotten any, please let me know! Thanks so much for the photos :-) Ann & Steve had a great number of catches, but it looks like Steve won this time Ann! Haha, I had to laugh at the photo of the Grey Common on the mat. I know exactly what fish that is having caught it three times myself from Lodgeside. It's a complete nightmare and does not want to be picked up at all. I'm just grateful that it doesn't have teeth with that attitude lol!!

***New Fish Delivery coming in the New Year***
The fish in the stock pond are coming on great and every winter we are able to take out more that are into their double figures. We took 18 out this year and then we move them between the lakes . This then leaves room for the others to carry on growing and there are 4 or 5 which are much bigger than 10lb but they are being brought on for another couple of years. The pond is continuously aerated during the warmer month and the fish are fed every day on high protein pellets and the oxygen levels are monitored to make sure they are in the best condition that they can be.
We have just ordered more Carp for delivery in the New Year. Some to bring on from young (around 1000 of these) which will start off in the big indoor tank and then be moved into the stock pond in April / May and then around 50 larger ones that will be distributed around the lakes.
