Crikey, what a week! To cap it off, we just met Alison Lewis, a descendant of Thomas Fowler, the Toritonian who invented computers (but didn’t have Babbage’s PR budget) and the modern central heating system. Among many things keeping Thomas busy in early C19th Torrington was looking after the town weights and measures: we tell people not to touch but, when you can handle something your ancestor did nearly 200 years ago, we can make an exception!

🐾 Some jobs around the farm are simply too important to rush… like kitten cuddles duty. 🐾

Rory took a well-earned break to give our newest little arrivals some attention, and judging by those tiny paws and sleepy eyes, everyone seemed quite happy with the arrangement. 🐱💕

One of the unexpected joys of a stay here is the chance for little ones to slow down, spend time with the animals and make memories that tend to become the stories they talk about long after the holiday has finished.

🦁🦁 Our little kittens have transformed into Three Lions for tonight’s game…

Leading the charge is none other than Declan Mice, pulling the strings in midfield and keeping a close eye on the ball ⚽🐾

The rest of the squad are still arguing over who gets to be captain, who’s chasing shadows down the wing, and who’s mainly here for the post-match Dreamies. 😹

Come on England… bring it home! 🏆

Outdoor theatre near you: The Pickwick Papers

There’s something about a warm Devon afternoon that even the cats can’t resist… ☀️🐾

This lovely girl has been making the most of the sunshine, finding her favourite perch and watching the world go by. She’s extra relaxed at the moment… and for good reason.

We’re expecting kittens very soon 🐱💕

She’s as friendly as ever, happy to sit nearby while you enjoy a quiet moment outside, especially if there’s a sunny spot involved.

There’s something quite special about being here this time of year… new life on the way, longer days, and that gentle, peaceful feeling that comes with it.

We’ve had two very special new arrivals here at Torridge House Cottages… 🐷💕

Meet our gorgeous little piglets, who joined us last week and have already stolen everyone’s hearts.

They’re incredibly friendly, full of character, and always up to something. One minute they’re snuffling around together, the next they’re bouncing about like tiny spring-loaded toys.

At the moment, we’re calling them Jump and Spot… although we’re not sure who is who half the time as they never sit still for long! 😄

Guests staying with us can pop over to say hello, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch them at their most playful (which is most of the day, to be honest).
