5th December 1965, The Beatles made their last Liverpool appearance at The Empire Theatre. John's sister Jackie told us a lovely story which we think is linked to that day. She remembers a big evening event, and John coming to visit the family at The Cottage for tea in the afternoon. After the event, he returned to The Cottage and stayed the night, sleeping in his favourite spot, the rug in front of the fire in the family room. We think this event is the right date because we know the band had the next day off from touring on the 6th, and it makes sense as he couldn't return to Mimi as she'd moved down to Poole earlier that year, and The Cottage wasn't known to fans. Amazing, but understandable, that at the height of fame, John Lennon chose to return literally to the hearth of his happy place. Many thanks to Jackie Dykins for sharing such a lovely memory.
December 4th 2015, John and Jackie's sister Julia unveiled the iconic waterfront statues commemorating that day.
