Who wants argy-bargy at the top of a mountain?! 👎
We completely understand why so many of our guests arrive in Mid Wales wanting to tick Yr Wyddfa off the list, it is an incredible mountain. But when we see stories like this, we can't help putting in a word for some of the spectacular mountains a little closer to Fronlwyd.
Cader Idris is one of our favourites. Park at Dôl Idris and take the Minffordd Path: 9km, around 788m of ascent and absolutely stunning Llyn Cau, proper mountain scenery and views that more than reward the climb. And don't be fooled by the lower summit height; it's a hard, steep mountain walk and definitely not to be underestimated.
There are plenty more wonderful mountains and walking routes around us too, where the experience can feel rather more like escaping into the Welsh landscape than joining a queue for the summit.
So by all means tick Yr Wyddfa off your list. But if you're staying at Fronlwyd, we'll always encourage you to leave a little room on that list for the mountains closer to home. 🥾⛰️
Scores of visitors have climbed Yr Wyddfa this summer, with some facing long waits at the top.
