We are situated in a rural setting with lovely views, on the edge of the Hafren Forest within the Cambrian Mountains. We are a 10 minute drive from the stunning Llyn Clywedog, and blessed with amazing dark skies. Each bedroom has an allocated shower. Our communal lounge is there for your use, a

nd in the winter you can enjoy the warmth from our large wood burner. We provide a smart TV, DVD's, Fibre Wifi and plenty of reading material. Our dining room has a super view, and is light and airy for you to enjoy your meals. We are Dog friendly, but please discuss at the time of booking, as we may not suit all dog owners needs, but are more than happy to discuss.

Sometimes the best days are the simplest ones.

As our guests weren’t arriving until this afternoon, we decided to start the day a little differently.

A slow breakfast, no rushing around, and then a wonderful local walk in Machynlleth along the beautiful River Dyfi.

The weather was overcast, but thankfully dry, and the wildlife was putting on quite a show. The sand martins were incredibly busy, ducks seemed to be enjoying a very lazy Sunday on the water, and cows and sheep were peacefully grazing in the riverside fields. 🦆

Bryn spent much of the walk on his lead as there was livestock nearby, but once we reached the other side where there were no animals, he was able to enjoy a good run and burn off some energy.

Now, I do have to admit there were a few moments where I thought Bryn’s enthusiasm for the river might get the better of him 😅
Thankfully his recall was spot on, and disaster was avoided!

One thing I absolutely love is walking beside a river. There is something incredibly calming about the sound of flowing water and watching nature simply get on with its day.

I was secretly hoping we might spot a kingfisher, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be this time.
Never mind... it just means I’ll have to go back again.

And that certainly won’t be a hardship, because this really is a beautiful corner of Mid Wales.

Six days since my last post... and honestly, we’ve been a little busy 👀”
Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming guests from across the UK and even from America to enjoy everything that makes this corner of Mid Wales so special.
Many have been here for the fly fishing on Llyn Clywedog, while others have spent their days walking local trails, exploring the countryside, cycling quiet roads, or simply enjoying a few days away from the noise of everyday life.
While they’re out making memories, we’re busy behind the scenes making sure everything is ready for when they return.
The alarm clocks have been ringing early as breakfasts are prepared, tables are laid, and plans for the day are discussed over a cup of tea.
Then, after a day on the water, the trails, or the roads, it’s time for home-cooked evening meals, hot showers, comfortable beds, and a cosy lounge where guests can relax, share stories from the day, and plan tomorrow’s adventure.
In between all that, there are shower rooms to clean, beds to prepare, logs to stack, admin to tackle, enquiries to answer, bookings to manage, and somehow finding time to keep our social media alive too 😅
It’s busy.
It’s sometimes exhausting.
But seeing guests enjoying themselves, returning year after year, and making the most of everything that Mid Wales, Hafren Forest, and Llyn Clywedog have to offer makes it all worthwhile.
When people travel from the other side of the world to experience this area, it reminds us not to take it for granted. We really are incredibly lucky to call this place home.
And honestly... we wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️

Well, every good game of fetch has to start somewhere... 🐾😅

This afternoon Bryn and I have been practising fetch and retrieve.

Now, I won’t pretend he’s got it mastered just yet. There have been a few distractions, a couple of detours, and some moments where the ball seemed far less interesting than absolutely everything else around him! 😂

But there have also been lots of wagging tails, plenty of enthusiasm, and a lot of fun along the way.

As they say, practice makes perfect.
The important thing is that he’s enjoying himself, and building his confidence.

And to be fair to him, bringing the ball back is definitely becoming more of a suggestion than a coincidence now 😂

Running your own small business can become a little all-consuming at times.

When you genuinely care about what you do and want your guests to have the very best experience when they stay with you, it’s sometimes hard to fully switch off. There’s always something that needs doing, replying to, fixing, organising, cleaning, planning… the list never really ends.👨‍🔧

But we also know that to give our guests the best of ourselves, we have to make time to rest too.
So when we do take a little time out, we make sure we spend it with the people who matter most, our family 💕

We’ve had a fantastic few days away. It was lovely watching Bryn enjoying time with his mum, dad, and grandma, and it was wonderful to spend time with our daughters too.

Although, if I’m honest… work never completely stopped 😅

I still responded to bookings, sorted our Tesco order online, and even contacted Powys County Council to find out why our bins hadn’t been collected. ♻️

And today, we arrived back in Wales to discover we had NO WATER… so Darren headed straight up to the source to sort the issue before our guests arrived. He’s now outside cutting the grass while I’m back catching up on everything else.
Straight back to it.
But I suppose that’s what happens when you truly love what you do.
And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

This evening summed up exactly what we love about Hafren Forest Hideaway 💜

Just 24 hours ago, these four lovely ladies arrived here as two sets of friends.

Tonight, they’re sat in the lounge playing cards, chatting away, laughing together, and looking like they’ve known each other for years.

S & E are beginning their adventure walking the Severn Way, while E & S are spending a few days exploring local walks before continuing along Glyndŵr’s Way.

And somehow, in the middle of all the walking boots, maps, cups of tea, and shared stories from the trail, friendships have already started to form.

It’s something we see quite often here, and honestly, it’s one of the things I appreciate most about what we do.

People arrive needing a few days away, some fresh air, a good walk, and somewhere comfortable to rest at the end of the day… and very often they leave with a little more than that.
I’ve genuinely enjoyed listening to the laughter and conversation drifting through the lounge this evening. There’s something very special about seeing people relax so quickly and feel at home here.

Guests arriving as strangers and leaving as friends… that will never stop meaning something to us.

Where have we been? Right here, living it.

It’s been non-stop at Hafren Forest Hideaway, and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way! We’ve welcomed so many new groups and solo travellers, all keen to walk to the Source of the Severn, & Glaslyn, visiting the many MTB parks here in Mid Wales, taking a stroll around Llanidloes & Machynlleth. And of course coming to see the magnificent Osprey.

Apparently my Thai curry is now a firm favourite.

Of course, Bryn’s still keeping us on our toes, especially with his current obsession for muddy puddles.

When things get hectic, our walks in Hafren Forest are essential. The calm, the time to think space and those truly special views? Pure gold.

So… we may have accidentally created yet another hobby for Darren 👀🎣

Yes the bag was to put his catch in 😊 Only one person guessed correctly, although some of the other answers did make us laugh, and thank you for joining in.

Yes, Darren headed off to try fly fishing on Llyn Clywedog for the first time… and I don’t think it will be the last.

In fact, he enjoyed it so much he went back out for a second day on the water.

Day one was tough going. The wind was cold, conditions were challenging, and all of our guests who were also fly fishing said it had been a difficult day on the water. They even congratulated Darren for sticking with it.

But day two… completely different story.
Better weather, calmer water, and the fish were finally biting.

💕I think the final photo really says it all, Thank you Chris for taking Darren out on the water with you.

Safe to say… I think fly fishing might have well and truly hooked Darren. 🎣

We know we’re not fancy… and we’ve never tried to be.
You won’t find scatter cushions perfectly placed on the bed.
There’s no rainforest shower or hot tub waiting outside.
What you will find is something a little different.
A simple, comfortable room where you can get a proper night’s sleep.
Six good, hot electric showers that are exactly what you need after a long day in Hafren Forest or around Llyn Clywedog.
And if you fancy something a bit more adventurous… there are plenty of natural places to dip and be right in the heart of Mid Wales.
But more than anything, you’ll find a place where you’re genuinely welcomed.
Reading through our recent reviews really reminded us why what we do matters.
It’s not about being the biggest or the fanciest.
It’s about creating a space where people can relax, switch off, and enjoy the outdoors.
