Description

406km cycling event starting from Llandrindod Wells. Controls at Tregaron, Llanidloes, Tywyn, Newtown and Kington, plus 2 information controls.

This is where the idea started. The ultimate memorial multi-surface ride styled to take riders on an adventure to test not only a rider’s strength but also their capability to plan a ride. This ride is not to be taken lightly!

A route constructed to represent ‘A Good Day’s Cycling’ on some of the races that Mike Hall rode in various parts of the world. Starting from Llandrindod Wells, the ride takes the road to Beulah and onwards to Tregaron. As a ‘warmer-up’, the Devil’s Staircase is the first challenge of the day. After a breather passing through the Cors Caron nature reserve on the NCR82, the ride heads back East on tracks alongside the Claerwen Reservoir to the Elan Valley. Rising up the Elan Valley and down to the head of The Cwmystwyth Valley, the ride then follows the NCR818 to Llangurig and the N8 onto Llanidloes. There will be a choice of nominated control cafes here. The ride then continues through the Hafren Forest, Staylittle, Machynlleth to the coastal town of Tywyn. Onwards to Dolgellau along NCR82 (see website header image) you will find a control on this lane. Rising out of Dolgellau on through Dinas Maldwydd to tackle Bwlch-y-Goes en-route to Lake Vyrnwy. Onwards over more grass dessert and then a flattish section to Newtown. Climbing out of Newtown to (and through) the sleepy market towns of Knighton, Presteigne and Kington followed by a final stretch along deserted but not forgiving lanes for an arrivee in Llandrindod Wells. The ultimate ‘Day Ride’. The route follows public rights of way throughout, some sections are on rough lanes/tracks and it is recommended that bikes are fitted with a minimum of 28mm tires.

And to get the ultimate ride experience, Wales has some of the best bivi spots and ‘Audax hotels’ (bus shelters) in the country, that’s if you have time to stop and sleep that is.

And once you’ve recovered, join everyone on Sunday morning for brunch and raise a drink to Mike.

Like all TINAT rides, this is an un-supported, multi-surface route. Please plan accordingly.

Track overview

The ultimate memorial multi surface day ride, styled along the lines of terrain encountered on routes such as The Tour Divide. Designed to test not only a riders strength but also their capability to plan a ride. So plan ahead, check where you can buy food to keep you going over the remote stretches...

Great to have Caddick Construction boys with us last night now on their way to Cardiff raising funds for St. Ann's Hospice in Stockport, South Manchester. It will be finished in a few months and it takes lads like these to make it happen.

The government doesn't spend on hospices. It's all funded by us.
They're building it and taking their time and money to fundraise to make it work. So good to see ! Watch out on the roads down through Wales today as they ride the 75 miles into Cardiff this evening
https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/stannsnewhospice

We've been caring for people in Greater Manchester and Cheshire for more than half a century, and we have big plans for the future. We need a new, purpose-built hospice that will serve the needs of our community now and in the future.
