I recorded 9 bird species in just 2 minutes on my Merlin Bird Song app today - Blackbird, Robin, Chiffchaf, Chaffinch, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Siskin, Song Thrust and Greater Spotted Woodpecker. A great display from the Blackthorn bush near the cottage this year. This should mean a good crop of sloes, unless there’s a late frost. The trouble is we never do anything with the sloes as we don’t drink Sloe Gin! Come and stay at Drovers Retreat later in the year, and have some to take home!
Fun fact - The word Sloe is from Old English and describes the blue-black colour of the fruit.
