Autumn jobs #1 cleaning the lakes! The swans have been practising flying from one lake to the other, I think they picked the wrong one today!

The warm and wonderful October weather stayed with us again today! Soft rain, gentle breezes, dramatic sky captured as I walked back to Ffynnonau!

Low golden autumn light. It's very peaceful on site at the moment. We have people drifting in and out, taking advantage of breaks in the weather, travelling between a and z, bringing dogs ready for epic walkies and calm evening snugged up in their vans and tents. I hear the cygnets have been for some test flights too. Last year they would fly between the two lakes, two perfect runways for learning the new set of skills!

Over the years we've seen many hedgehogs at Fforest Fields, they've been found in tents, under tents, eating left over dog food and parading young across in front of reception. At this time of year they should all be tucked up, snug in their winter quarters, if they are not and you see them about, chances are they are not very well. The marvellous people at hedgehog rescue in Shobdon will take them in and return them to the wild when they are recovered. Dot and Pete found this little one at the weekend and she is now safely with Sue at Help for Hogs, Shobdon, she weighed in at a tiny 200g and will need to be at least 600g to get through her winter's hibernation. Thank you Dot and Pete for the information and the photographs!
