It's National Poetry Day today and I would absolutely love to share this poem written by Bethan, my cousin...mmm.. twice removed I think.
She was 11 years old at the time and read it to me sat on her bed. I cried, honestly. It was written for a competition and she won, surprise surprise.
Just feeling a little proud over here in Wales, Bethan
Well done x
Wonderful Water
By Bethan Doney
Water is life, water is death,
Water is sadness, at times happiness.
Water is changing, with every tide
Water, when clean, can fill you with pride.
Glaciers are melting, to deep ocean blue
Water runs with the world just like me and you
It has no defence, no tactics, no strength
But with our surroundings, its growing in length
The fiery blanket, that smothers our Earth,
With every pounce, plants have no rebirth.
For that we need water, our beautiful lakes
Tears from the heavens, what a wonderful place.
Rivers that flow and rivers which sleep,
We need them to bathe, to drink , to weep.
Water is pivotal it succours we survive,
If only we'd look at it for once through Earth’s eyes.
We take in a breath, of freedom, of life,
Yet the havoc won’t stop,
It cuts like a knife.
So the sharp scent of salt now sits over filth,
All of this chaos is caused from our spilth.
But if we took a moment and reflected our wrongs,
With all of them stacked our mistakes would be songs.
Wrapping round the world like rivers that flow,
Gushing, rushing but nobody knows.
Babbling streams that trickle with dreams,
Wonderful water is all the world needs.
