🚨 Busy Weekend for Burry Port RNLI Crews 🚨
Over the weekend, our volunteer crews responded to two separate incidents, working alongside HM Coastguard and partner emergency services to help keep our coastline safe.
📟 Saturday 18 July
At 6.09pm, Burry Port RNLI were paged following reports of three people on a paddle board being swept out to sea on the eastern side of Burry Port Harbour.
Our Atlantic 85 The Misses Barrie launched immediately and made best speed to the area. At 6.21pm, HM Coastguard confirmed all three casualties had reached the shore safely and requested the crew provide casualty care.
Working alongside Burry Port Coastguard Rescue Team, the casualties were assessed at Burry Port Lifeboat Station and it was confirmed that no further assistance was required.
The Atlantic 85 was then washed down, rehoused, and made ready for service.
📟 Sunday 19 July
At 7.26pm, our volunteer crew were paged following reports of four people being swept out to sea in challenging sea conditions.
The D-Class RNLI-911 Challenge launched at 7.35pm and made best speed to the reported location.
At 7.38pm, the crew located two casualties still in the water and brought them safely aboard the lifeboat. Casualty care was provided while they were transported back to shore.
Thank you to one of the casualties that managed to reach two of the casualties and assist with the rescue to bring them out of the water and safely return them to shore before the lifeboat arrived. Burry Port Coastguard Rescue Team continued casualty care at Burry Port Lifeboat Station before a Rapid Response Ambulance arrived at 7.47pm to assess those involved.
Following assessment by the ambulance service, one person was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. The D-Class was then washed down, refuelled, and made ready for service.
👏 A huge thank you to HM Coastguard, Burry Port Coastguard Rescue Team, Burry Port PCSOs, and the Rapid Response Ambulance team for their professionalism, teamwork, and support throughout these incidents.
🛟 Please remember to check the weather, tides, and wind conditions before heading out on the water. Conditions can change quickly and leave even experienced water users in difficulty.
📞 If you see someone in trouble at the coast or at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
