Hospitality gets such a bad press.
“Its’s not a proper job”
“They’re only a bar person”
“You don’t need a degree to be a cleaner”
These, and many, many more we’ve heard over the years.
How so, so wrong all of the statements are too.
Working in hospitality is one of the most rewarding jobs. Why we were the first to close and last to open during covid is beyond me.
Those who work in hospitality are vital for vulnerable people who rely on us for chat, support, a safe place, help.
We are not just bar people, cooks, servers, pot washers. We are:
Entertainers
Counsellors
Cleaners
Financial people
Social media influencers
Marketers
Human Resources
Plumbers
Engineers
Organisers
Accountants
Wage control
Managers
First Aiders
We quick think, work through problems with constructive solutions, utilise. All with, usually, a smile on our faces (we have bad days too and personal problems).
Most of our staff are working two jobs at least or have been in school or college all week too. They face some abhorrent comments sometimes but smile through it.
Hospitality workers are not beneath anybody. In fact, they do multiples of the regular jobs out there. And work late hours and weekends too! Much more than the average worker. (Some people need to remember this when they go to any hospitality establishment).
On top of all of that we offer chances to further your career. We do apprenticeships with Cambrian Training and offer training for first aid and food hygiene as well as personal licences and front of house operations.
You are more than welcome to rise through the ranks with us - we always need more managers and licence holders on board.
Working with us in the hospitality sector is one of the most rewarding (and well paid) jobs in the world that have transferable skills and allow you to work anywhere in the world with them. We offer pension schemes too.
We travel around the country to trade shows sampling new products and meeting like-minded people.
It really is one of the best jobs in the world and I’d take it any day over sitting in an office with the same people day in and day out!
