Calming birdsong and a cool 20 degrees at the bottom of our drive at 8:30 this morning. It's another day of struggling against heat for the sheep, bees and plants, but our human guests are loving it!

So we manage about half our land at Banceithin for wildlife, which basically means we leave it alone. The areas of bushland are a magnet to lots of birds but our favourite migrant is the Grasshopper Warbler. It is tiny and very hard to see, but if you listen carefully you can hear the delightful peel of it's call, which sounds like a grasshopper!

Lovely day out in the south of Ceredigion. Took some friends to see Mwnt Chapel, the oldest Chapel in Ceredigion on the Pilgrims way, then we feasted in .cymru in Cardigan with take away doughnuts for later 😋

It has taken years of trial and error to figure out ways of maximising the polytunnel space over winter. In early years it sat empty, one winter it housed chickens under avian flu restrictions (never again 😮). Then I discovered that lettuces, coriander and greens will happily idle away the winter under cover, then burst into life come spring. This beauty, picked today, will be dinner for two.
