One of our most favourite walks, just a minute drive from the estate! 🥾🏰🌊

Not far from the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Castle Tioram, high on the headland surrounded by the muddy waters of Loch Moidart, you’ll find the Silver Walk. This lovely trail follows the coast before turning inland, skirting the hill of Beinn Bhreac and then returning back to the car parking area.

The walk takes its name from a hoard of Elizabethan coins that were discovered hidden in a rock crevice by labourers building the path in the nineteenth century. Nobody knows for sure how they came to be there, but one legend tells of a theft of coins from the castle that were never recovered.

Three servants, two men and a woman, were accused of the crime. Little evidence was presented but nonetheless the men were hung and the woman tied by her hair to a rock in the loch and left to drown.
