One year ago today, I walked away from corporate life to follow a rather different path. 🤍

After years of working in the corporate world, I decided to take a leap and put my energy into turning Lochwood House into the retreat venue I’d been dreaming of creating.

I knew it would be a change. I’m not sure I quite appreciated just how much of a change!

This past year has been a little bit of everything. Early mornings, late nights, endless washing, chopping wood, learning new skills, tackling things I never imagined I’d need to know about, and quite a lot of figuring things out as I go.

But it’s also been a year of watching something really special come to life.

Seeing retreat leaders bring their ideas to Lochwood. Watching complete strangers arrive and leave as friends. Seeing people slow down, reconnect and enjoy this beautiful little corner of Scotland.

Those are the moments that remind me why I decided to do this.

Has it all gone to plan? Absolutely not.

Have I questioned my decision along the way? Of course!

But a year on, I’m incredibly proud of what we’re building here, and so excited about what comes next.

To every retreat leader who has trusted us with their retreats, every guest who has stayed, and everyone who has supported us along the way — thank you. It really does mean the world to our small family business.

Here’s to year two, and everything it might bring. 🥂

Winter at Lochwood 🤍

Imagine a few days where the outside world feels very far away…

Slow mornings overlooking the loch.

Whether you’re planning a winter retreat or simply want to gather your favourite people together for a few days, Lochwood is yours to make your own.

We have just two winter dates remaining:

✨ 27th November — 2 or 3 nights
✨ 18th December — 2 or 3 nights

Both are available for exclusive use of Lochwood House, sleeping up to 14 across seven bedrooms.

For retreat leaders, we can also create a stay including The Wild Spa and Geodome, giving you everything you need for a cosy winter retreat by the loch.

Or come simply to switch off, eat well, walk, talk, laugh and spend some proper time together before Christmas.

There are many, many reasons we chose a wood-fired hot tub for The Wild Spa.

The atmosphere. The woodsmoke. The quiet. The ritual of lighting the fire and slowly bringing the water up to temperature. 🔥

It feels perfectly at home here, tucked between the woodland and the loch.

There is, however, one small operational detail they leave out of the brochure… 🪓😂

Would we swap it for electric?

Absolutely not.

Would I occasionally like the wood to chop itself?

Absolutely yes.

Somewhere along the way, small business owners also had to become content creators… 😴

As if running the business, answering emails, taking bookings, doing the accounts, fixing things, cleaning things, ordering things and having approximately 847 ideas a day wasn’t enough… apparently we need to make reels too.

The irony is, I’d much rather be spending my time making this place even more beautiful for the people who come here.

So I have a little favour to ask…

If everyone who sees this shares it, there’s a chance it might find its way to the retreat leaders, yoga teachers, coaches and facilitators looking for a beautiful place to bring their people.

And then I can get off Instagram and back to creating the good stuff. 😂

Lochwood House is now available for retreats all year round — a private lochside house in Argyll for up to 14 guests, with our Wild Spa, woodland spaces and this rather lovely geodome.

Sometimes our guests describe Lochwood better than we ever could. 🤍

Mist rolling over the hills, seals appearing in the loch and a hot tub with one of our favourite views in Scotland.

My feed is currently full of reels telling people how to ask hotels for free stays.

And judging by our inbox, they’re working. 😂

So here’s our version…

Yes, you actually CAN get a free stay at Lochwood.

But probably not because of your follower count.

We’re a tiny family-run business, not a hotel group with rooms allocated to PR. A complimentary stay still means giving away dates we could sell, as well as heating a 7-bedroom house, cleaning, laundry and paying our lovely team.

And the reality is that right now, we don’t need more people to show Lochwood to their followers.

We need people to bring their communities here.

We’re building Lochwood into a home for retreats, gatherings and groups, and there are retreat leaders who have trusted us with their guests, returned to us, recommended us and genuinely helped our little business grow.

Those are the people we want to spoil.

So next year, we’re going to start giving some complimentary stays back to the retreat leaders who support Lochwood.

Not in exchange for a reel.
Not for a certain number of followers.
And definitely not because someone taught you the perfect template for a collaboration DM. 😉

Just our way of saying thank you.

Because when you’re a tiny independent business, loyalty means far more to us than reach. 🤍
