Davar is our family Bed and Breakfast situated in Lochinver - right in the heart of the North West Highlands Geopark. We're surrounded by mountains, lochs and some of the best walking country on the planet. The area has gorgeous drives and abundant wildlife - not at all unknown to find stags in the garden and otters in the bay.

Community is a wonderful thing. When people come together to just do the right thing, for the right reasons and every year in Assynt we have one of those community events that brings everyone together in remembering Euan MacRae by celebrating something he loved and in doing so raising money for MacMillan Highland, a charity who have bring support and comfort to those in their last few weeks and months.

Each year, tractors arrive in Lochinver, to begin a circuit around the Drumbeg road in memory of a young man who loved his croft. TrA8tors EUAnite has Euan’s car number in the name and each registration, each raffle ticket sold and each donation helps support those amazing folk who supported Euan in his final days. It helps us all remember a fine young man, brings people together in celebration and is every year a splash of fun and colour in a great cause.

Loch Assynt.

Lochan a Choire Ghuirm from Glas Bheinn - the loch made famous by the poet Norman MacCaig (and then in a grand book by Andrew Greig and a tv show with Billy Connoly) as the "Loch of the Green Corrie"......except it isn't.....

Its one of three Corrie Lochs around Glas Bheinn - others are red and black, but green in Gaelic is Glas, so if it was the green corrie it would be Lochan a choire Glas.

Ghuirm is one of those colours that might have come from a paint catalogue in that it is a bluish-grey (the Gaelic equivalent of a tropical shadow). The green corrie is though, just a mistranslation. No idea if it was MacCaig or someone before him, but it is green now to most folk.

Whatever the colour it is a beautiful spot, both from above and for those who enjoy their fishing. Well worth the walk.

Quinaig (mostly) from Glas Bheinn. I think these rocks have been placed by someone - been there for a couple of years, but not sure how many more -frames a pic nicely though.

If you like a mountain walk, the joy of Glas Bheinn is that not many people do it, so good chance of getting the mountain to yourself, the views are grand and once you get over that first steep 1/3 or so, the rest of the way up is pretty easy.

A very short walk last week to a waterfall with an intriguing name. I'm told that Eas na Saighe Caime translates as the waterfall of the crooked bitch. So many possibilities - a dog leg, a bent over but unpleasant woman, a fraudster or someone having a laugh with a mapmaker? It is a big old drop, a stunning spot and hidden in plain sight.

Like so many of my favourite places - never see a soul there.
