Davar Lochinver

Davar Lochinver Davar is our family B&B. We'd love for you to visit, stay with us and see the surrounding area. We use this page to show our photo's and post the odd message.

Davar is our family Bed and Breakfast situated in Lochinver - right in the heart of the North West Highlands Geopark. We're surrounded by mountains, lochs and some of the best walking country on the planet. The area has gorgeous drives and abundant wildlife - not at all unknown to find stags in the garden and otters in the bay.

Took this not for the rainbow over our bench, but for the contrast in the skies - not edited, the sky to the West really was much darker. Nature is wonderfully wierd. Do love a rainbow and as for that pot of gold....still digging. :-D

A new phone mast in front of Suilven?

Not quite, just playing with the zoom lens at Crocach (or is it Rhicharn - not sure which side it sits on) though it does look a lot closer.

Always a reminder of how technology site amongst some of the most ancient of rocks, the old and new blending into the landscape and without them, you'd not be able to take that selfie and send it from the top.

Suilven and Canisp - but can anyone remember football matches being played in front of that house? I'm told it was also the games field at one time. :-)

Went on a walk the other week with some lovely folk from the North of Scotland Archaeological society and stopped at what was once a chambered cairn (a lot of the stones were 'borrowed' when the first road to Lochinver was built in the 1820's). Whats left are these amazing upright stones right at the roadside - and one of them fairly uniquely is marble.

Unsurprisingly given the material they are just on the Lochinver side of the marble quarry at Lyne. I wonder how many people drive past these upright stones every day (or when driving around the NC500) and have no clue that they are passing a 4000 odd year old monument.

Anyways enjoyed the darkening light and playing with a couple of torches for a gentle light.

A walk up Canisp is always a treat. Between the waterfalls, the ptarmigan (not every time, but a good chance this time of year) and the gorgeous views there's a lot to fill the day.

Have seen the Suilven and kirk pic done so many times now (all, to be fair, better than my attempt which was just a snap to finish the group) that I thought maybe it was time to go from a different angle and get some other local landscapes in the fore/background as well. Personally liking Duncan's latest creation and might go back and see how that looks with a nice sunrise one morning.

No need for AI btw. It's just zooming in a little on the lens to create the optical illusion of closeness. These were all at 130mm except Mr Toad who was a bit close and had to zoom out a bit.
